oddly enough, managed to see it through
I think I saw the ending somewhere at the 20 minute mark, and given the lack of laughs in those 20 mins, I was ready to shut it off. Yet, after skipping forward a bit, I found myself watching it till the end.
Actually, I made a slight error when predicting the ending - I thought it would be revealed in the end that the dude is not his son, since when the ed murphy character said to the woman that it's their son, she backed off in disbelief and seconds later realizing the potential for great wealth, began saying yeah - it's their son.
Anyways, I still don't get why I kept watching.... there were no laughs, it was utterly predictable due to so many early hints as to what will happen in the end, the acting.... the film was made like a poor parody of the original, with peeps breaking out into songs, acting way over the top..... which essentially killed any humor this film might have had. The original wasn't a super serious film - when you make a parody of a film which wasn't that serious to begin with, you are overdoing it by a huge margin.
It would have been way better with less foreshadowing early in the film, with more serious tone/acting with intermittent jokes, and possibly with more original twists in the plot - otherwise, parts of it were nearly a parody-like rehash of the original.
I can't say 'don't watch it', because as I've said before, I managed to see it through which surprised the heck out of me, given all the negatives I saw in the film.
I do appreciate Wesley Snipes being given a big role - the fact that he was imprisoned and is now blacklisted in the hollywood for doing something all of the billionaires and film execs do without repercussions is surreal.
