I really liked the movie, but I’m wondering how would the old man (the father) know his kid would show up and observe the Morse codes?....I suppose by being trapped down there, he had nothing else to do and thought it was worth a shot....

The whole morse code aspect was very peculiar. It didn't make any sense to have 3 switches in the bunker wired up to three separate lights in the house. And how would they even discover the switches turned the lights on and off? "OK. Keep pressing the switches and I'll walk around the house and see if I notice anything".

It didn't make sense, but it was meant to signify that he was doing the stupidest job of all - to pamper the rich owner. Kind of like people who throw flowers for the king to walk on.

Nobody. I would think some adult would see it and call the electrician. Eventually, it could led to them finding the hidden cellar.
