This films fails at the basics of screenwriting

There is nothing wrong with a film that tries to do things differently and explore different ideas.

But in order to engage the audience, you need to have some basic things. Among them is a protagonist that is relatable and makes you want to root for them.

The Protagonist had none of that. We don’t know anything about him, what he likes or believes in. He’s just a generic “agent” smashing things.

And I am surprised Nolan would fail at this. Even with complex films like Inception and Interstellar, he wrote relatable protagonists that you could root for.

And don’t get me started on how horrible the villain was. He was so darn generic that it is like a first year film student wrote him.

It seems as if Nolan is focusing so much on the ideas for the film that he has become lazy in the film making.

Concept is king with Nolan, but I think Washington is the second worst casting decision of his filmography

I thought the Protagonist was great. The villain was sort of generic.
