Still would have underperformed without COVID and thats the truth. The word of mouth wasn't as good as Inception.

came to say this. Add to that no major stars and all it had going for it is the name Nolan.

a few things added up against this movie:

1. super complicated, outside the box ideas, hard enough to follow even if you could hear the dialog....
2. hampered even more because you couldn't HEAR the dialog. what a bad mixing choice for this complexity.
3. Covid

Much like Wonder Woman 1984, I could see it being far short of what WB really wanted. It would've had a strong opening couple weeks due to Nolan's name alone, but I could see a big drop off and a BO total lower than Inception and Interstellar but higher than Dunkirk.
