Good CGI?

I have been reading audience reviews and I can understand that people's taste in writing and storytelling differ, but you have to be blind to think that the CGI here is good. People are saying the CGI here is excellent. What? Did I see the same movie as these people? Holy crap, this might be the worst CGI I have ever seen. I don't get how people think the CGI is good. Anyone here liked the CGI? Be honest.

It wasn’t special to me either. Just regular ol CGI. I wish they’d just use real animals.

reply

No it's far from the worst. You need to see more movies. It's the standard quality we see in stuff that isn't Marvel or directed by Peter Jackson.

reply

It's pretty bad. You should get glasses or have them checked if you wear them at least.

reply

"...this might be the worst CGI I have ever seen". Really? If it's not hyperbolic, I guess you don't have SyFy channel.

reply

Haven't watched that channel in years. SyFy Channel is a big waste of time. When there is so much good television, why would anyone watch that crap?

reply

Aside from the Sy-Fy channel CGI, I think Spawn had the worst CGI I've ever seen.

reply

"Good CGI" is one of those contradictions of terms, like "government intelligence". All CGI looks like a video game.

reply

Mostly true, but there have been a few movies that have impressed me. Overall though CGI isn't all that. Even the movie Avengers Endgame had some parts where the CGI had me snickering. There was one part toward the end of the big battle with RDJ that had me rolling my eyes due to the fact that the CGI and RDJ combined looked so amateurish.

I just saw the trailer for "Call of the Wild" with Harrison Ford. They actually have CGI dogs running around, looking completely fake, when real dogs could have been used. It looks like Ford's image was captured and inserted into a video game.

reply

That's a shame that Call of the Wild is using bad CGI. Bad CGI=bad movie.

The CGI was decent but certainly not excellent. On the other hand, it is far from being "the worst CGI I have seen". To be fair, its very difficult to make photorealistic CGI animals and the first time they ever pulled it off was Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and stuff like Life of Pi. The movie is aimed at small children and I do not think they will notice or care than the animals are not real. Only adults will be annoyed at stuff like that.

It would be impossible for real animals to do most of the stuff the animals do in this movie, the scenarios are obviously fantasy. Though it was annoying that there seemed to be zero real animals used in a movie about animals. I would prefer a blend of maybe 70% CGI and 30% actual on set animals. Would have made the movie flow a lot more smoothly.

The original Dr. Doolittle used mostly real animals except for the pushamapullme. It is a terrible movie all around. I remember when I was a kid, there were so many better children's movies than there are now. These days fart, poop and wee wee jokes are in almost every kids movie.
