so why didn't the Crown Prince...
...return the baby to his dead guard's wife?
Did she actually not survive after they last showed her (something they failed to mention if true), or did a grieving mother simply not matter??

I don't understand it either. I don't recall her dying and I think giving the child back will also remove the impediment of a rival to the throne. 3rd, he does not honor his father by giving up the throne. His father repeatedly told him to survive long enough to be the king. I hope a 3rd season comes to rectify this.
Ps. Why do they keep referring to the baby as legitimate? He isn't. And why does he assume the baby will grow up wise and good? A persons character relies on his innate nature and upbringing. As a baby he wouldn't know how he would turn out. The baby would be better off with his mother.
Exactly.
Between Bae Doona's character witnessing the scene where the Queen admits to her dad that the baby isn't hers and the actual mother of the child who is still alive, they should've had no problem proving that the baby wasn't the late king's child. The woman who helped the queen stage the pregnancy scam was alive too if I can recall - she could've also been coerced into admitting the truth if needed be.
The prince gave all those heroic speeches about how he'd fix the poverty in the country and get food for his people the whole 2 seasons and suddenly abdicates the throne to an undeserving infant who had no legit claim to it and who would take years to grow up, at which point he may or may not do what is expected of him.
Dumbest thing I've seen since I saw the decision making of the crews from Prometheus and Alien Covenant. Apart from that, great show.
Also, I don't think there should be a Season 3 - it concluded the zombie infestation and political drama neatly at the end (sans the prince's action), so anything further will only be re-treading covered ground for the sake of prolonging the series. Didn't care for the Resident Evil-ish music and style at the end of the last episode either.
The boy king is infected though isn't he?
shareYep. Bae Doona's character purges the worms during the final zombie attack in the palace and thinks he's parasite free, but they do show a worm wriggling its way up to the boys brain years later when he's the young king.
If you raised that point to justify a Season 3, I can see it happen, although I don't want the Resident evil style theme continuing into the future episodes.
The whole reason he came up for the boy to be king and taking his place was kinda lame. He put a kid with no royal blood in position. Maybe out of respect for his bodyguard/friend?
