Ending — do you think she gets off?

We know she is innocent, but from the perspective of the state police, she did, after all, kill a veteran sheriff. So you know they’re going to ask questions. There are no other witnesses. Does she get charged with anything?

My guess is that she might get off when the state police locate the drugs that the brothers picked up from Lowell. I believe the dead policeman’s body might be in the car too?

FACT: She did not kill the sheriff. Prove me wrong.

Gets off from what? She didn't do anything wrong, except defend herself. But I know what you mean: She kills the (corrupt) sheriff at the end.

If she plays stupid and merely explains that she escaped the meth rednecks there should be no problem. The investigators would just find the sheriff's body in the creek and assume that one of the meth guys did it.

Even if she tells the truth the evidence would support her story. After all, she's just a young college student and a stranger passing thru that part of Kentucky with zero connections there, plus the job interviewer would corroborate her appointment in DC. As such, the investigators would have no reason to think she's part of the drug ring or a malevolent young murderess.

So, yes, she gets off.

The sheriff was dump enough to call his partners in crime one minute after he send out his deputy out. I am very sure, he has enough evidence all over the place which easily connects him to the meth trade. Also the state trooper mentioned that there was already several drug related crimes in the area. The sheriff fits much better into the profile as a young deputy with a family. They were shown not stupid. At the time they were tricked by the sheriff, there was still no doubt that the sheriff is trustworthy and a police man most likely involved to make it working.
He might got away if living, but as dead person, I highly doubt it.
