Why was anyone killed that didn't necessarily have Sam's blood on them like Peter, Beddy, and the hospital receptionist? It made sense for Simon and Kate to be killed because they had Sam's blood on them, but when they didn't the killers ran right passed them.
I would understand that for Peter and Beddy, but not for the receptionist. Since Sam came in an ambulance, she probably didn't have contact with the receptionist at all. Then again it's a small hospital so the receptionist might have more responsibilities.
I assumed it was because they were the only adults who could report that Sam and her boyfriend survived and because they were known witnesses of the killers, so they were taken out to tie up any loose ends - unlike the kids, who were ignored because they weren't supposed to be there.
That way, if the news reported that Sam and her boyfriend died in hospital, there would be no one alive to deny the statement.
I didn't ever view the killers as that smart. They just seemed mindless to me so following the blood made sense and that's the only explanation we get for why they're after all the characters.
I've seen all 3 films in the trilogy, so I can't really answer this question without spoiling something. But my answer makes sense. You're not wrong, though.
Let me try and explain without spoiling it too much.
The killers are brainless puppets of a "mastermind" if you will. They don't see anyone, they just go by the blood of the person whose name is on the mastermind's hit-list. The mastermind wasn't present at the hospital when the kids showed up to visit Sam and so was unaware that they needed to add anyone to their hit-list.
This is a terrible plan, considering the fact anyone could've showed up to the hospital and witnessed some killers running around, but because of the mastermind's occupation, they would've been the first to know if anyone came forward with this information. In fact, they might be one of the only people to know and so could deal with them immediately. And since they're fueled by the death of Shadysiders, it doesn't even matter how many witnesses do come forward - the more witnesses that need to die, the more power to the mastermind.
They kill the police guys as well in the last part in the mall. Didn't make much sense. While I enjoyed it, some consistency would have gone a long way.
Sam was already on their hitlist though so they were at the hospital for her. My issue was them killing people that didn't necessarily have Sam's blood on them when three other times in the movie they run right past her friends because they don't have her blood on them.
Maybe Beddy, Peter, and the hospital receptionist did have Sam's blood on them, but they should've made a point of showing it if they did considering that's the whole reason why the killers are after Sam.
You're not wrong. But it wasn't only about Sam's blood, which is why it was confusing. I think by the end it's been established that anyone who got in the way would be killed, but because of that, it really lowers the stakes and causes a lot of confusion because there's not a whole lot of purpose in letting anyone live or killing anyone, either way.
