Looking to a franchise lowest 35m opening (previous lowest was The Wolverine 53m) and therefore be lucky to make it to 100m domestic total (lowest is The Wolverine 132m) and maybe 200m overseas .. so might even struggle to reach X1s 296m ww (and that's 20years ago!)
This has nothing to do with Disney, fox made this movie , end of , I'm sure if Disney made it under marvel studios , we would get a better more successful movie.
Are you excited? Another Disney owned property tanking at the Box office. Did you predict or pre-conclude that Dark Phoenix was going to fail based on the budget or Fox not able to tap into the cultural zeitgeist of the times?
Nothing about this movie looked appealing, so I'm not surprised
The make-up in these last few movies, particularly on the blue characters like Beast, Mystique, and Apocalypse (whose face should be GRAY, not sure how they fucked that one up) looks fucking awful
Sophie Turner and Jessica Chastain as the main villains? Lame
And everything in the trailer looked too similar to the previous movies. It's like Simon Kinberg has no idea how to evolve these characters or move this world further. It's always Magneto and Professor X shouting at each other. It's always Mystique looking distressed and giving a speech. It's always doom and gloom. Days of Future Past, Apocalypse, and Dark Phoenix all had downer trailers that made the stakes too high. It's always about the end of the world
And the X-Men movies are also visually boring (apart from First Class and DoFP). The Marvel movies take you all around the world and into outer space and other dimensions. Scenes take place in cities, open fields, alien planets, on snowy mountains, airships, boats, government facilities, etc.
Most X-Men scenes take place in everyday locations. Mainly cities, suburbs (wtf is up with that lol), or the Mutant Academy. This looked just like Apocalypse but with less interesting villains, actors looking uninspired, and a re-hashed story from a previous, awful movie
Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg were both cancer for the franchise, IMO
It’s getting you to care and be invested in the characters as well which this and Apocalypse both failed to do. Avengers: Endgame got me to care about Hawkeye for fuck sake.
Honestly, if they got Christopher Marcus and Stephen McFeely to write the X-Men reboot you can guarantee I’ll be invested and it’ll bring the necessary emotional weight to the characters.
Damn this movie was so boring the trailers even struggled to convince you it wouldn’t be.
Currently 61m domestic/233m ww (no more territories to open in)
Should get to 65m in US (same as Apocalypses opening wkend! And HALF of the previous lowest domestic The Wolverine!) but no way its getting close to previous lowest ww X1 (296m)
