Die-hard DC fan, but I won't be buying it.

reply

The Die Hard movies have no connection to Black Adam or any other DC characters

reply

Are you sure?

reply

Yea, although John McClane started to become a superhero in the 3rd movie, he still isn't part of the MCU

reply

I FEEL COMPELLED TO POINT OUT IT'S "BLU-RAY." NOEMOJI

reply

Big deal. Who still buys DVD's or Blu Ray anymore in the age of streaming?

reply

Hard copies are the best. Hands down.

reply

You do realize its cheaper to get HBO for a month and DVR it. Or do what I do. The day the movie is on, order that channels service for the month. DVR it. Then the next day, call your cable company and tell them you accidently ordered it as a mistake and they will take it off your package and issue you a refund

reply

No thanks. I stream everything for free. And if I like it I'll buy a hard copy so that I can have commentary, deleted scenes, behind the scenes interviews, making of docs, and the slow mo and frame by frame option. Streaming actually kind of sucks.

ETA: My reply was for your original reply of "You do realize its cheaper to get HBO for a month and DVR it."
But it still stands.

reply

You can watch all those commentary, deleted scenes, etc on youtube. And this movie is also on regular HBO and not their streaming service

reply

Again, no thanks.
And I don't need to order any channels at all because I stream what I want to watch for free anyway.
Streaming sucks compared to hard copies.

reply

So go ahead and buy the DVD. In a few months, it will probably have scratches on it and won't work

reply

LOL. I've had DVDs for years and they still work after all this time. It's called: Taking care of the things you own.

Also, Blu-Ray discs have improved scratch resistance and you have to really be trying to fuck them up to damage them.

reply

TRUTH!^

reply

I let my cat play with a few of them and they no longer work. So I stopped buying DVDs

reply

Not a good idea to leave your media consumption up to the whims of modern streaming companies that will simply delete an episode here and there because they feel it's "problematic".

reply

Black Adam is on regular HBO and not just their streaming service. Why buy the DVD when you can DVR it off HBO? And all those extras like deleted scenes, etc always pop up on youtube

reply

I'm talking in general. I don't think anyone would notice/care if Black Adam was wiped ha

reply

I do, and I buy them in 4K multi-format. You are spot-on that all of the extras have been diluted (besides the voice commentary) and are really no longer worth the purchase price.

I have a nice sound system (Bose) and a nice HD TV and enjoy my setup for watching big action movies at home.

reply

While it's true that a lot of discs are very weak when it comes to special features, there are still occasional releases that go above and beyond.

Sadly, I think that studios have largely concluded that an abundance of special features is not a big driver for sales.

reply

Granted I am a lot more selective as to the media that I purchase, notwithstanding my collection addition addiction condition. (CAAC).

Studios are really less diligent and deliberate in creating media unique content in the age of streaming.

I do, absolutely. I've bought several movies on 4K Blu-Ray, Blu-Ray and DVD just over the past few weeks.

If you want:

1. The best image quality

2. The greatest amount of special features (or often any special features at all)

3. To actually own your movies and be sure you always have access to them

Then you need to be continuing to support physical media.

reply

👍👍Totally agree!

reply

DVR it off HBO and watch the special features on youtube

reply

If you DVR it, do you actually own it? And what of the people who don't have HBO?

Do you think that you can find every special feature from the disc for any movie on YouTube? I assure you that you can't.

reply

As long as you keep your cable company, you own what you DVR. If you don't have HBO, then order it the day the movie is on. DVR it. Then call your cable company and cancel the HBO subscription. Tell them it was an error. They will issue you a refund, meanwhile you have the movie on DVR

reply

Does the process that you just described really seem more sensible than simply purchasing the film on disc?

reply

not really
