Favourite Rocky Movie and Why?

I like all the movies (except CREED, which I thought was garbage)

Personally for me, ROCKY III is my favourite, because (although devoid of the originals 'grit') it seemed the only movie to try deviate slightly from the formula. It's a lot faster paced (and doesn't feel feel the need to take each fight to the final bell) MR T made an excellent (and genuine) bad-guy for Rocky to go up against (thus prompting Apollo to the be revealed as the flawed nice guy, that the first two movies hinted at)
The plot mirrored Stallone's own mini-decline at that point in '82' (luckily he also made a little movie called 'FIRST BLOOD' that same year, to fall back onto)
The editing also echoed the fast-paced action genre (that Sly was soon to make his own....f**k Schwarzenegger) and despite the almost 'Roman Gladiator' spectacle of ROCKY III, it was still grounded in a certain 'reality' that went out of the window with the ridiculous (but enjoyable) ROCKY IV.

It's probably the same reason I think ROCKY V is vastly underrated for deviating from a tried and tested formula.

This CREED franchise, however, seems like an black cash-grab (for all concerned....especially Stallone) and in it's attempt to be gritty (and 'urban') lacks the all important ingredient that made the ROCKY saga beloved....heart.

The character of Adonis Creed, is neither loveable (nor interesting) I can't root for him (he has no likeable traits) and given the outlandish plot device proposed for *this* sequel....I can't see his character growing on me any time soon? This franchise now reeks of some kind of black entitlement 'franchise' that (without Stallone's involvement) would have flopped like the dozen or so 'Rocky' clones that came after the original. I'm sure it's a great nest-egg for Stallone (but at this point, it's just him trying to stay relevant) I also have no desire to see my childhood hero die of cancer on screen (however realistically it is, or portrayed)

Stallone is better than this.

Rocky II because it took everything from part I and polished it more. The fights were better, the film quality was better, the family drama was better (argghhh Paulie), the characters were fleshed out more thanks to part I. And *SPOILER*.......[spoiler]Rocky gets to win this time![/spoiler]

They were all great fun and entertaining to watch, but I would have to say the original. It truly is a great piece of filmmaking. If there had been no sequels, they would be talking about it today the same way they talk about Citizen Kane or The Godfather. So while yes, I enjoy the sequels, and seeing the life story of Rocky Balboa, they did rob the original of its legacy as a great standalone film. Instead it's become a prequel to Rocky fighting superhuman Soviet boxers or such.

For the longest it was rocky 4 during the 90s...and then somewhere in the early 2000's it became 2 for the reasons someone on this thread said.. "it took everything from part I and polished it more. But I recently started to really come to love the original...It's more of a love story than all the other parts and i think that's why i like it so much. Rocky was a bum with No confidence going no where. He Met the love of his life, Another person with No confidence and together you see how much they grow and build each other up...And in the end [spoiler]Even though he lost the fight She was right there to tell him "Rockyyyy I Love you!!!!" for which he responded with "I Love You!" It was beautiful.[/spoiler]

Nothing beat the original, but Rocky Balboa is probably my favorite after that one.

25 years ago, as a 12 year old, I would have said Rocky III or IV. Those two are now at the very bottom of the list.

For the last ten years my favorite has been the original. It was very humble and stands out as a great movie.

Rocky Balboa was good. So was Rocky II.

I like Rocky V more through the years. It's not as bad as it once seemed... I just wish it had left Rocky in better circumstances.

Rocky 3 is my favorite. I love the story. The friendship between Rocky and Apollo coming together and how he helped Rocky get back to being the fighter he had to be in order to get the title back.

Micks death was also very meaningful to the story. Overall great movie that I love going back to here and there. The whole series is good imo. Creed is alright though. Not bad but not too great either. I like the music of Creed 1 though. Especially Bianca song at that club. Cool scene.
