Homecoming and Far From Home as titles.
What terrible titles.
There are two... TWO titles that are so glaringly more obvious for either of these movies that it hurts.
Peter Parker: Spider-Man. A title that ran in the comics for over a decade.
Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. A phrase that has been used to describe the character since the beginning.
Homecoming. That is irrelevant to the story. They said it was supposed to be a play on the fact that Marvel is the rightful home of Spider-Man, but that doesn't make it a good title in any way. Also Peter skipped the homecoming dance at the end to stop the Vulture, but that's weak as hell.
Here's how either Peter Parker: Spider-man or Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man work for this movie. The entire movie is based around the idea that Peter isn't satisfied being Peter Parker. He wants to be Spider-Man. Time and time again he skips out on being himself to do Spider-Man things. He's not satisfied as Peter, and he's not even satisfied as a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. All he wants is to be an Avenger. In the end, what does he realize? He realizes he's more than satisfied being Peter Parker and being a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. That's it. That's the arc of the main character of this movie. How did these titles that are relevant to the history of the character AND spot on to the storyline of the movie get passed on?
Far From Home. And now what makes either of these titles work for this too? Well what goes on in Far From Home?
Peter wants a break after fighting in space and in the final Endgame battle. He doesn't even want to help out Mysterio while on vacation. Why, because (and I quote) he wants to be just a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man!... Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man!
Then MJ confronts Peter about being Spider-Man. Spider-Man is revealed to be Peter Parker to the world at the end!... Peter Parker: Spider-Man!
It's like I'm losing my mind over here with how obvious this is!
The best answer for these is Homecoming should be called Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, and Far From Home should be called Peter Parker: Spider-Man. That's what works the best all around.
