Did Mother think about nature's ecology?

Ok, so we know that Mother wiped out mankind in order to start fresh. But she obliterated everything. Everything! So whilst she plans to restore mankind, what about all the other species of the planet? You can't just have a planet of humans; there needs to be an ecological balance to life. You need ecosystems in order for things to thrive. Yeah, we saw that she was growing corn with the presumed vision to grow other wheat, oats, and vegetables, etc. But what about mammals, insects, reptiles, amphibians...? Does she have their embryos too?

That's a fair point.

But we only know that the planet is a wasteland from mother's words and from environment around the bunker. Maybe the location of the bunker was specifically chosen so the daughter(s) cannot see the world and try to leave and maybe mother exterminated only humans, not all life. After all there is a dog there as well and it's unlikely he survived some apocalypse for some decades until Swank found it. More likely he is a sign that life still exists outside of that area.

Yeah that makes a lot of sense actually. And I did wonder about the dog. Maybe the dog is the sign to viewers that there is actually animal life still around. But I think it would have made a better sign and impact if it were a wild dog, like a fox or wolf, not a domesticated one.

We saw a domesticated dog ... but did we see how was the dog when Swank found him? Maybe was wild and she domesticated it.

There is the option that mother grew the dog from other embryos so Swank wouldn't go too crazy but that would imply that mother has a lot more embryos and possibly for a lot more than just dogs.

Chances are this is not the only bunker and now that mother is happy with the results it might start not just repopulating the earth with humans but with a whole ecology.

My point is that the dog could represent the nature survival or revival.

She very well could have domesticated it, but I think the fact that it was a domesticated breed to begin with gives a wrong implication. I dunno, I could be wrong.

I think if Mother had embryos of other species there would be a better and bigger hint of it. Hmm. It's very interesting. You do make good points, I just wish it was a bit more obvious 🤷‍♀️

Of course it was a domesticated breed. Probably since the extinction event (few decades away??) the surviving dogs breed with each other so the breed in any of the situations would had still been a ... domesticated breed.

TBH I was wondering what was with the dog, now that you asked it made it more plausible, lol

Yeah that's true. But still, I think it would've been nice to see something else.

But I did feel really bad for the dog presumably being all alone after Mother killed Swank!

I don't think Mother wiped out humanity.

I got the impression that humanity drove itself extinct. The savages mentioned by Swank's character (if they actually existed) would've been the last of a dying, dead-end community.

Mother's just repopulating the earth with what "she" views as a more enlightened, responsible version of humanity that will maintain their habitat responsibly.

The terraforming we're seeing is still only in the beginning stages, and it's equally clear to me that "Mother" isn't actually dead, just sitting back and allowing Daughter to make the next series of choices.

I think it's implied that she did wipeout humanity in order to create a better one. After all, she is the whole consciousness of all the droids, and she/droids deliberately went after and killed the humans.

Mother isn't dead, no. She is indeed sitting back to allow Daughter to take over.

Yes it is still in the beginning stages but I would've thought they'd show hints of other species (other than the dog) or at least embryos.
