Because people wanted another Mad Max movie. Nobody was asking for a Furiosa spin off 10 years after the original movie came out.

reply

Exactly. The Mad Max franchise with the CHARACTER of Mad Max is popular and iconic. Nobody gave a crap about a so-called "Mad Max" movie about some other character.

It's still a good cover story of one particular character. I think it'll age well in the long run once they return to doing Max himself.

reply

I don't. It will go down in history as a "what were they thinking?" failed black sheep of the franchise, like the "Lightyear" spinoff of Toy Story, the all-female Ghostbusters "reboot", the 1967 "Casino Royale" James Bond movie with David Niven, etc., etc.

Furiosa really came too late. They were discussing it early after Mad Max 4, but it went into development hell. I am sure, if it had been released max 3 years after Mad Max and with Charlize Theron, it had been more succesful. Instead we got something, which feels like a remake of Mad Max 4 without Mad Max.

reply

Because Furiosa isn’t Mad Max, Mel Gibson is
