Does not follow the traditional trope of a Gangster Film

The traditional trope is:
(First Act) We see the rise to power, the struggle in the early part of their life.
(Second Act) We see the height of their power and their outlandish lifestyle their power and influence has bestowed.
(Third and Final Act) Their inevitable downfall and the aftermath of living a cruel and selfish life.

I went into this move hoping it would follow this outline, that I'd get to see Capones life play out from his perspective as Tom Hardy throwing around his weight and being a tough guy...but was underwhelmed and disturbed by what I saw instead.

Im not going to spoil too much but give a brief description.

This movie is just showing the final year of Capones life, showcasing his deteriorating health, very brief flashbacks of his past that he regrets and is disturbed by, mixed in with hallucinations alluding to Capones slow descent into hell.

It would have made for a better movie, to actually show us the full story from Capones point of view, with the ending act being this very film but edited to fit into 20 minutes.

Basically this ENTIRE movie is a bloated third/final act of a full story!!! Without giving us the first or second act!

I dont dislike Hardy for the role, he would have been perfect as the tough guy who becomes savy and rises the ranks. I really wanted this film to be like "American Gangster" but alas that is not what we got.
