-Will Smith as genie took a normal song then hiphopped it up with hiphop dances and hiphop grunts/yelling (that cringe scene where Genie Smith was waiting on the Sultan to tap his hand and put everyone on one long pause; freeing the Genie was so anti-climatic)
-Characters feel static or lack of emotion compared to the animation (do you trust me? *robotic yes from Jasmine with lack of facial emotion as shown in the animation*)
-Mostly bad CGI animals like in the Lion King
-Songs don't hit the notes like they should (I get it that they sing while doing stunts but I am sure they'll sing better, maybe, if they do it like they do with animation or how they did it with lion king)
-From China in the original story to the Middle East in the translation and animation to India in the movie? Wut? (Arabian setting with Bollywood-like attire and dance)
-Young Jafar sucks, there is no menacing nature from him at all.
-Iago wasn't even annoying at all as he should be
-Lack of glow from the serpent staff

I see that they're making Aladdin 2 so I guess people liked it still with all its flaws, bland acting for the most part, and so so rendition of the songs and whatever new ones they slipped in.

Disney has more or less turned into Chinese cinema by churning out mostly bland movies as fast as possible to generate whatever profits they can muster. Not saying all their movies/tv shows are bad but they make up the majority of it.

I thought it was fine. Not great. But acceptable. The actor who played Aladdin was likable. Will Smith was funny and charming, as he always is. Jasmine was pretty. The plot flowed smoothly.

The film had its flaws. I agree with you about the CGI stuff. Jaffar was underwhelming. The music at times was ehh.

But overall, acceptable film

Finally watched it for the first time this weekend. I liked Will Smith as the Geni and didn't mind his updating the songs. However, I wasn't a fan of him trying to be all weird and zanny. It just felt forced. You can't copy Robin Williams and I wish they had let Smith bring more of himself into the story.

Aladdin was fine...just...as someone who grew up with this film he just wasn't 'MY' Aladdin. Yes; it sounds weird that I, a 39 yr old adult is complaining a real life interpretation of a cartoon isn't good looking enough but I really see Aladdin as a little more masculine and older than portrayed by this actor. Again...he was fine but I wish they had someone else.

Jasmine was fine but I hated her song. They couldn't get Alan Menken to write her something? It didn't fit with the rest of the films score and the whole feminist message was just over done. I was over the song the second time she sang it.

I also wanted and older Jafar. Someone who has been working under the sultan for years and finally was making his move.

The Bollywood stuff; I don't mind. Yea, the story may have started out in China, but that's not the setting Disney and many other productions choose. Disney has always been known for having inspired by places without actually naming where they are and if you look at the original cartoon, there are more Indian styles used in places like the palace and Princess Jasmin's outfit. I thought it was a beautiful looking movie.

I could nit pic more but I definitely had the same feeling of 'meh'. I didn't hate it but still prefer the cartoon over all. The music was better and the story was cleaner and made in a time before everything had to be overly PC. My favorite part in the movie was probably Jasmine's handmade. She was hilarious and liked her relationship with everyone in the movie.
