A few stories are going on here, but the one at the party has not progressed anywhere for the first 2 episodes. Just a bunch of standing around and talking. Get with it.
So far, the show has been more about everyone trying to hideout and avoid The Purge rather than The Purge itself.
This is like watching a porn movie, with no porn in it. Or a bad horror movie that has nothing scary about it.

Yeah, it doesn't appear to have any direction. Massively disappointing. I could easily come up with a million ideas for awesome episodes.
Party story line. Bunch of rich old fucks drinking champagne. Who cares. And they have utterly terrible actors as guests. Look at their expressions and mannerisms when they're watching Miguel run that gauntlet thing. Feigning shock and surprise at each part. Terrible. Though if we get some nakedness from Lili Simmons, I can put up with it.
Shitty CGI gunfire. As bad as the TWD.
WTF is with Miguel's goggles? Piss poor attempt at thermal I suppose. Driving around with them even when so there's loads of ambient light around...
Bus of crazy cult members. Obviously part of the Miguel plot trying to find his sister. But WTF? Who comes up with this story line when they think The Purge? A bloody moron.
Contract killer running around with a Desert Eagle. Nice and sensible weapon choice for the most dangerous night of the year...
It doesn't need episodes to setup the universe. The films have done that. They can just jump straight into it. Whoever is in charge needs to be fired.
Good point about trying to set it up instead of jumping right in. There are always those who are probably watching this that didn't see the movies, but I think they're the extreme minority. So yeah, get on with it.
I wondered the same thing about Miguel and the goggles. I didn't quite understand the reason to have them on.
Even so, one episode should be sufficient to set it up and use as a jumping off point. I mean, this isn't exactly a complicated concept...
As for the goggles, some fuckwit writer probably saw a YouTube video of some SF guy driving at night, blacked out, no headlights using NVGs to navigate and thought it would look cool but messed up the execution.
I still haven't watched the last two movies, but I've been a fan of the series. I was curious to see how it would play out as a TV show, but they are really dragging along here. I expected a small amount of framework to build up the show and introduce the characters. But, as soon as "The Purge" started it should have been all go and this is just not happening. I absolutely hate this cult plotline. As clearly if not after the first person knocked off, that second one should have caused some kind of revolt. I also really find the husband/wife at the fancy party storyline a waste of time. I'm into the contract killer angle, but they tried too hard with getting that character over or explaining the lady who hired her, motives.
I'll probably keep watching it but it is going to be hard. Right now the curiosity for me is to see how "leatherface/gimpsuit" is going to cross with Miguel as I feel that is direct collision course. And I suspect the Contract Killer is on a collision course with the husband/wife storyline by collateral damage.
A porn movie but everything is filmed from inside the apartment of the neighbor of the couple having sex and all you get is the muffled sounds of moaning through the wall.
shareI'm 3 episodes in and having trouble caring. I thought this would've been an interesting show since the movies do have an interesting and terrifying premise.
This show meanders and feels watered down. It's weird, there's some risque nudity and many f-bombs, and yet, it feels very sanitized and PG-13 compared to the movies.
I am hating the couple who went to the Purge party. I cannot stand their scenes and the slow talking with that third woman. The movies had tension, and this show feels so drawn out and dull.
