Did we miss an opportunity with Prince Eric?

Ok, so the casting of a black actress for Ariel has been beat to death.

My question is about Prince Eric. Did we miss an opportunity to finally have a black prince in a Disney film? I’m all for diversity. But we already know that there will eventually be a Princess and the Frog film, and a black actress will be cast as a princess, as that’s a central theme of the story. So even if Ariel was cast as a white acress with red hair, we will eventually see a black princess anyway. But Prince Eric is brown skinned in the 1989 animated film anyway. Should Eric have been cast as a black prince instead of Ariel as a black princess? I think it could’ve worked and could be an interesting case for a debate.
