It's all a bit silly but it's fun.

There is absolutely nothing original about this film and the outcome is entirely predictable. But I think it doesn't matter. I like the cast and I think it's interesting the way a bit of focus is given to so many of the very minor roles - it seems to give a little more depth to the film. There are also some nice iconic moments like moving the shuttle along riot damaged streets and I don't think they overdid or relied too heavily on the special effects. Obviously there is a lot of CGI as they gleefully flood California and throw huge objects around but I thought the Moon sequence was actually pretty good. So I enjoyed it and I'll watch it again sometime as undemanding popcorn entertainment.

a movie about a hollow moon?

They throw in a back story to explain what the 'moon' actually is - a trope that's popped up in a few sci-fi books I've read - then get on with saving the Earth.

I agree it's a fun time at the movies. I've definitely seen worse and less-entertaining films.

Saw this last night Clacton Cinema was pretty empty prob 25 people there give this a 7/10

Was that at The Century Cinema? If yes, it's a nice looking building and I like these the older cinemas.

Yes it was pretty empty in there https://youtu.be/D48WK2qcNs0

It was on channel 4 last night, watching it now, it’s ok

It's actually pretty boring and cheap looking

Well I enjoyed it for what it was and so did Mark Kermode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulW3gmbEjJs

It was the same quality as Independence Day 2. If you enjoyed that - you'll love this.

They took too long time to establish the hollow moon. As if it was a mistery whether the moon is a megastructure or not. And then after they showed that it is, half of the story still has not finished.

It really feels like The Matrix 4. They took a long long time to decide the Matrix is real or not, and when they did the reveal the movie is still only half-way done.

It's a bad structure for a movie. They should have just right up give the fact that the moon is a megastructure in the first scene. Literally when there were astronauts in space. Reveal it first, then build the movie around that premise.

Or, if you want to make the fact that the moon is a megastructure as a mistery then build the movie around that and only reveal the answer at the end of the movie in a big twist Shyamalan style.

I guess I enjoyed the film as it was and don't feel the need to change it. But to be honest it's three months since I saw it on the cinema and I'd need to see it again to think about it's basic structure - which is perhaps a definition of a popcorn movie?

Personally I couldn't enjoy the movie.
There's being unoriginal and then there's blatant ripping off. Too many times throughout the movie I was distracted because I could see which movie they "borrowed" and idea from.
Also distracting was the whole movie I was trying to guess if they would do an Armageddon and "sacrifice" Patrick Wilson's character in the end to save the planet. I guess that might have been too much of a rip off so they sacrificed the chubby English comic relief character instead

A silly fun popcorn film.

its like watching 2 different movies. the 1st hour and the 2nd hour. I thought I was tripping when the moon opened up.
