She's not as fat as what Queen Vic looked like in photos.

I believe it was the costumes which had extra padding to make her look robust.

She actually isn't fat. She was wearing a fat suit under her costumes so she would resemble Queen Victoria in her twilight years. It is Queen Victoria who was obese during that time of her life.

Dench looked as short and fat and aged as she should have, since she was playing a short fat old woman.

That's what good actors do, while the bad ones are out getting plastic surgery.

Duh! She was playing Queen Victoria, not Pamela Anderson!
