But I fail to see why Valak would be taking the form of a nun before then... unless it had just been hanging around with nuns for so long, so it got used to the habit.

shareThe movie explained it as though she would take the form to taunt....or do her evil bidding. And since her victims were larger nuns there, it would make sense.
shareWell the fact is that they didn't have plans for a Valak prequel before The Conjuring 2. So when they said "Valak took that form at that moment to MOCK Lorraine's faith" in C2, they meant it. Then they decided to do the spinoff, and they realized they had to keep her at that Nun form because it was already recognizable. The sheer existence of this movie makes no sense, since that line was true in C2, but then in turn this movie negates the truth of the line. So, it's certainly confusing.
