Why are they faking the accent?

Sarah Greene and Luke Roberts are both British, so why are they using an American accent?

This is becoming more and more recurrent on TV. Same thing with Hayley Atwell (Conviction)

reply

Because the role requires it. Don't you know the scripts are already written when the roles are being cast right ? I mean both actors applied for the roles which were already written and luckily for them they were cast.

reply

Sarah greene is IRISH - they're doing an accent cause its an american show where they're required to have an american accent

reply

They both do a darn good job of it. They had me convinced. Sorry. Never heard of either of them until this show.

reply

What kind of question is this??

Because they are playing American characters!

reply

Not sure how to respond to such a ridiculous question. The characters are American. Hayley atwell is the daughter of the president of the United States in conviction.

reply

So what is a British accent because if you think its that dickhead accent all those crap actors like Redmayne and co use you're very much mistaken

reply

Kinda silly, I don't get why they couldn't have let him speak in the british accent. Tom Ellis does on Lucifer and it works great.

reply

The character of Lucifer is not an American, he's not even human.

The characters in Ransom are American.

See the difference?

It's not about where the show is scripted to take place, it's what the characters are scripted to be

reply

Since the character Eric is based on is Laurent Combalbert who was born in France, the character could have been European. Creative license can go many different directions - Eric's wife after all is being played French complete with accent. They obviously chose to have Eric be U.S. I am saying I would have preferred the character with an accent.

reply

If anything they should be faking a French accent, if based on Laurent Combalbert. So this whole discussion is moot.

reply

The fact it's based on a French person doesn't matter for a fictional character, so they take liberties with creating the fictional character.
