That would make sense. I watched a YouTube video explaining how this was about Cuthulu though but your idea is great too

That's pretty clever... all the elements are there... big ass creature at the bottom of the ocean. Ties in nicely to the final scene of the first movie.

Certainly ties into the series better than the third one...
