Breaking the fourth wall

Hey I’m not sure about this but I was wondering if others noticed as well. In that last long shot of Elio’s face there’s a moment where he seems to look at the camera therefore breaking the fourth wall. Did anyone else notice this or am I mistaken?

reply

Yes, just before the end he looks straight at us. Surely intentional and with a sense of “see how stupid homophobia is”... in the look, I felt.

reply

just looking at the camera is not enough to break the fourth wall.

reply

Then what is ?

reply

acknowledging the audience. This is obvious.

reply

His last look to the camera in the final moment seemed to me it was just that. A kind of; will you fucxers ever learn, kind of look.

I haven't seen the film yet but fanboys are constantly twisting concepts to benefit their twisted view of cinema.

reply

True, but in this particular scene though it is just his face filling half the screen off what feels like several minutes and right before the final cut to end credits his eyes shift and he looks right at us. The OP make it sound as though it is unclear, I don’t why, it surely isn't :)

reply

well I would have to see it but I doubt it's breaking the fourth wall.

reply

I thought his look was about him being thankful for the time he was with Oliver, his family and his life. I didn't think that he was breaking the fourth wall.
