Is there anything wrong with...

...a contract that guarantees people food and shelter and never having to worry about providing for themselves if they commit to working for the same company for life? I mean, many people can't sustain a living on their own so is this morally wrong or a solution that may be viable for many who don't have anything better?

reply

If you have to ask you are not worth discussing it with.

It's barely a step above slavery. A point the film clearly intended.

Except it's different than slavery if people elected to do it. They are getting paid and taken care for life in exchange for loyalty and a pledge for life. How is that slavery if it's a choice and they are compensated? Some people are homeless or starving on the streets. It's not such a bad deal for many. I honestly meant what is wrong with it? Basically it's what many people do anyway except usually for more than one employer over time.

This is how feel, as well. It’s changes the game when it’s a choice. And no, I don’t see anything wrong with it except that it’s a life obligation.

reply

Exactly. Now I don't believe the equi-sapiens are happy, or at least they seem to regret their decision. Or if they were transformed without their knowledge or against their will I don't condone that. But the equi-sapien program was separate from the "power callers" and even the regular life-long workers. In that case the equi-sapiens were abused or forcibly put into slavery. That's why they revolted.

reply

Yup. Exactly.

That’s a huge “except”. How can you know when you are signing up for it that you really understand the implications of what you are signing away? That is exactly why indentured servitude and debtors’ prisons were made illegal when the United States became a country.
