Season 1 was funny season 2 was drama.
Who needs another sad sack of affairs heads up? We want laughs!

shareI agree. I'm catching up on season 2 right now and, so far (about half way through) - while it has its moments - it's a crushing disappointment compared to the first run. Andrew Scott's priest is tedious and it's only sporadically funny, a far cry from the hilarious first series.
It's a bit of a shame that it was only after season 2 that this show started racking up so many awards.
Season 2 was also considerably less clever than season 1. I remember thinking that a second season shouldn't even happen, given that the revelation at the end of season 1 underpinned everything that happened. Season 2 was all surface.
shareI disagree, season 2 is considerably higher level than season 1.
shareFully agree, the writing in he first season was on point, everything started falling into place revelation after revelation. The “priest season” was tasteless shock value with very little merit in the writing department.
