Hate it

Couldn't even watch 10 minutes and I watch a lot of bad stuff just for background noise.
Not funny. Trite sex jokes. No soundtrack and it desperately needs one.
Talking to the camera mid-scene is over done and just masks writers laziness to provide a narrative and context.
Titled appropriately. This show is a fleabag.

While watching the first 10 minutes of the first episode I felt exactly the same way. The constant fourth wall breaking felt forced, lazy, gimmicky and I found neither the writing nor delivery funny in the least. So let me just conclude by saying that I stuck it out, completed the full season in one sitting and I consider this probably one of the Top 3 best shows of 2016.

It's really something spectacular, and fantastically talented Phoebe Waller-Bridge deserves every award that comes her way.

Agree completely--the first episode reminded me a lot of Girls and I questioned the hype around the show, but I laughed enough to stick around and watch the second episode and then all the rest-- show is just so much better and so much more than those first few moments of that first episode would lead you to believe.. Absolutely blown away by Phoebe Waller-Bridge's performance.

I think it's worth attempting to watch all the episodes, there is an interesting backstory. I didn't think it was bad, just overrated. It's also not actually very funny, despite what people say. But I sense that were it sold (more accurately) as a drama (or perhaps an indie movie broken down into 6 episodes) people would see it for what it was, diverting, not ground breaking, stuff.

Very well put. I finally got through all the episodes, and I found this marginally entertaining and easy to digest. This was an uncomfortable mix of comedy and melodrama, and I think it would have worked better had it stuck to one genre -- preferably the latter. But the writing and performances are strong. 7/10 stars from me for the series, with individual episodes ranging between 6 and 8.

How can anyone take seriously the criticism from someome who only watched the first 10 minutes of something?

Anyway, even though I loved it, I can see it's not for everyone. Not the typical woman you see on TV, which is what made the series stand apart.
If you hate series like Catastrophe, Broad City or Girls and its characters, then this is not for you.

EDIT: I forgot to add, the breaking of the 4th wall can feel off putting at first (so were the laugh tracks in the IT Crowd for me) but it really grows on you and it becomes essential as the show progresses.

English is not my first language. Sorry for any mistakes.

It's adapted from a stage play by the same writer, maybe it would feel more natural there to break the 4th wall.

Intresting and definitely is a show I think is polarizing. And sometimes that says alot about an effort if someone hates enough to say so then it at least provides an emotion in a TV world that is so often bland.

Great review; really shows off your critical viewership skills!
