Try not to judge me lol but I could not get in to this film at all.
Annoying kids, uninteresting people....
I gave up after about 40 minutes.
Does this film pick up after that or is it safe to say the film is not for me?
Same here. This is the kind of movie that, for me, looks like a filmmaking experience which doesn't really bring anything more. The plot got boring quite fast, the mother had no redeemable qualities whatsoever, some scenes were just irrelevant, I didn't wish anything for the characters, etc.
I know it was a clear tribute to the Dogma 95 movement, so the fact that the story is mostly linear is normal. But, as I've said originality isn't always synonym with quality.
The acting was quite good, though.
Slice of life movies don't really have a story. You need to watch Lifetime movies for stories.

I suffered through the whole thing since I was on a flight from Osaka, Japan to San Francisco, and no, it only gets worse.
This is a terrible, disgusting movie about a foul mouthed, disrespectful, ungrateful, violent, free loading, thief/prostitute/scumbag lowlife with no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
You did the smart thing when you bailed.
