The difference is, none of those franchises were directed exclusively by the creator of the franchise. Makes a huge difference.

How do you calculate this without mentioning the real episode 5, The Empire Strikes Back?

Attack of the Clones wasn't bad, it was the best of the prequels, in fact.

I agree with your list, all except Superman Returns which WAS decent.

at the time the reviews were quite favourable. but overall the feeling was one of disappointment. and after a while that seemed to be the general consensus

I was going to come in here and say that the 5th James Bond movie, You Only Live Twice, is pretty good but then it occurred to me that the original Casino Royal was the same year. Sure enough, that charmingly awful spoof came out 2 months earlier. Thus the 007 franchise also has a bogey in the 5th slot. I know it isn't from Eon films but it is a James Bond movie if not technically.

The 5th Pink Panther movie is great. The Pink Panther Strikes Again.

I'm sure some Harry Potter fan will say that the 5th one is good. I don't know. I liked the first one and suffered through the next two before jumping out of that airplane.

What about Fast and Furious? I hated the 1st one (but saw that Hobbs and Shaw which was a dumb but serviceable buddy adventure). Is the 5th one as bad?

Yeah Bond and F&F 5th instalments are considered good (Think Fast 5 is considered the best one actually)

However the 5th movie 'curse' can apply to Craigs 5th Bond film
