This movie will never happen
Sorry.
shareI think you're right.
I think the business model that supports huge tentpole CGI-extravaganza movies has been torpedoed by the pandemic. There were be fewer movie theaters and more streaming after all this is over, films won't earn billions in the first weeks of theatrical release. And what's the point of even trying to make a film like this, if the director isn't given a special effects budgets of nine figures?
I agree. The effects were really cool to see, but 3D is pretty much over, and the story wasn't really great. Considering how long it takes these movies to be made, the sheer cost of making them, and diminishing returns. I can't see it happening.
Well, 3D had been over before, until Cameron revived it with "Avatar". And if it's dead again, it's because people like Cameron haven't been making 3D movies, it's mostly been used as a way to tart up real crap.
I suppose 3D for home streaming might become a thing, new TVs are huge and there's no reason people can't buy their own plastic 3D glasses. I just don't think it will ever be popular enough to justify an Avatar-sized budget.
They are not making 3D direct-view sets any more, Otter, and have not for some time. 3D projectors are available, but they require a screen and a sound system,
shareIt really is a fucking crazy bet from the studio. They need 3 sequels to make a billion at least, for a movie this size.
shareIt may happen...in 2058.
