Black TinkerBell

terrible idea

reply

WHY?

reply

I don't really care about this casting, but I would like to say the constant race and gender swapping happening in Hollywood, and Disney right now is getting tiresome. I would love for women to have some great original roles instead of a role that was already played by a man. (Matlock, looking at you). Instead of race swapping roles, why can't studios fund movies written by different types of story tellers? I mean both Moana, and Encanto did well for Disney. Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) is killing it. I really liked Slash/Back (2022). I think audiences are being really under estimated by studios right now. There are still good writers out there. There are still somewhat new stories to tell. There are a vast majority of folk stories that could make great Disney movies, if they let the right people tell them.

reply

Ok, you know it's getting bad if even you are noticing it and commenting negatively (and truthfully) about it. It's getting to the point of suffocation really. I agree that there are so many new stories to tell by unknown writers that aren't being given a chance. We need more originally.

reply

There are many talented writers whose work will never see the light of day due the rampant nepotism and favoritism in Hollywood. If one isn't a part of the exclusive inner circle... forget it.

reply

FAIR STATEMENT...I MUST AGREE...WHILE I HONESLY DO NOT MIND THE "SWAPPING" AT ALL...THE COLLATERAL DAMAGE IS CLEAR AS DAY.

reply

What’s it matter as long as she does a good job? Tinker bell is not a real person and this isn’t a documentary.

reply

Right but the original creator had a specific look for tinkerbell.

If you created something and for strange reason people changed it. I'm sure you would not like it

reply

Right, but this is an adaptation. In any adaptation, things are changed. There have been various Peter Pan themed films and they have all had different changes to characters or to the story.

"Right but the original creator had a specific look for tinkerbell."

In J. M. Barrie's original stage production, Tinker Bell was portrayed as a darting spot of light. This effect was achieved with a hand-held mirror reflecting light from a bright lamp. Her "speech" was represented by the sound of bells.

reply

THAT...THAT IS WHAT I WANT TO SEE!....THAT SOUNDS COOL...THEY SHOULD DO THE LIGHT AND BELLS THING.

reply

NBC did Peter Pan Live! in 2014 with Allison Williams as Peter and Christopher Walken as Captain Hook. They utilized a similar effect for Tinker Bell; see the 6:00 mark here:

This was a form of CGI controlled by a technician during the live broadcast.

reply

I THINK I OWN THAT VERSION ON DVD...I AM NOT SURE THOUGH...NEED TO ASK MY DAUGHTER...SHE MANAGES THE "CHILDREN'S TITLES".

reply

Fairies are mythological beings, so they can be portrayed by anyone.

If you are concerned about accuracy, then maybe Tinker Bell should appear as a darting bit of light who communicates through the sound of bells, as was done in J. M. Barrie's original stage production.

reply

That scene in Finding Neverland still gives me goosebumps. I prefer the dot of light.

reply

No kidding. What color is a fairy? What nationality are they? Do they even have corporeal bodies? Do they even exist - OF COURSE NOT!

So if a fairy don't look like anything, and can be played by a spot of light or a series of cartoon cells, why the hell can't they be played by an actor with African ancestry.

reply

99% of fairies are represented as white...

reply

Darn those white actors, taking away jobs that really belong to moving spots of light!

reply

Excellent idea! BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL!!!

reply
