Did people actually care about figure skating?

I wasn't alive when this happened, but apparently it was one of the biggest sporting controversies of all time. Well I find that quite hard to believe, since before this movie came out, I'd never heard anyone talk about figure skating, I barely even knew what it was. Was figure skating ever actually a big thing, or do people just like controversy?

Figure skating is one of the more popular Winter Olympics sports. The rest of the time, no one cares too much.

But all the drama surrounding the attack on Kerrigan ensured it got much more attention than it usually did.

I'm from the Philippines and we're not big on figure skating but we all knew of this back then.

I was only a kid at the time but my parents mentioned the scandal all the time. To the point where I remember being annoyed, because they didn’t give a crap about ice skating.

So it’s safe to say that the scandal was bigger than the sport!

It was a huge event when it happened. I lived through it and people were glued to the TV over this. We didn't have social media and the internet back then, so people had to tune in if they wanted any news on this and in my view, it put figure skating on the map. People really started to care about this sport after this happened.

You should watch the movie if you haven't already. Bear in mind though, it is a dark comedy, they took this whole incident and made a movie about it, a really funny one. I'd give it a 7.3 out of 10. It might help if you were around when it happened but I think millennials would like it.
