Grate Moovie But...
...da reel Tonya wuz much cuter
shareShe was. Margot doesn't have the curves; she needs to eat more.
shareRobbie is lovely and has a unique look ( liked her in FOCUS,where she played a really good and interesting role---not just the "pretty girl" one) but like you said, she needs to eat a little more. Not her fault---Hollywood still has this screwed-up notion that women are only attractive if they're thin as a damn twig and 90 pounds sopping wet---so I'm sure they already banged that into her head, sadly enough, like they do every actress in the business.
shareYes, I agree; she's very beautiful -- a "knockout" -- and was excellent as Jane in Tarzan. But, like you point out, she needs to eat a little more, which would add sexy curves to her figure.
shareMargo Robbie is too tall and thin to be cast as Tonya Harding. Tonya Harding was short and husky, in real life.
shareI agree, but this is regularly done in cinema. For instance, the 5'8" Joaquin Phoenix was cast to play the 6'2" Johnny Cash in "Walk the Line." Producers are more interested in making money through casting those with current star power than being historically accurate.
shareUnfortunately, however, the fact that producers of film are much more interested in making money hand over fist, especially nowadays, is the big problem.
shareBecause historically accurate is boring. This are movies not documentries.
sharePro wrestling asked Tonya to become a wrestler. Pro wrestling would ask Margot to be a card girl. I've no respect at all for Harding, but she had real muscle and power. Robbie has a pussy.
shareMy problem was she looked old for a coming of age/young adult role.
shareMargot wasn't super skinny in this, probably too big for a skater
shareThe real-life Tonya Harding was quite pretty back in her younger days. If up-to-date photos of the real-life Tonya Harding are any indication, however, that's sure not the case now. She's totally unrecognizable, and hasn't aged well...at all.
shareActually, I saw the real Harding on TV at the premiere of the film with Robbie a few days ago, and except for a little more weight, she actually dosen't look that much different---and she was hardly what anyone would call "unrecognizable". I remember when that incident happened in downtown Detroit (at the now-closed Joe Louis Arena, I believe) and frankly, I've never believed her when she claimed that she didn't know anything about the attack on Nancy Kerrigan, even back then--for the simple reason that she had the most to gain from it. She pretty much killed her own skating career with that BS, so she's got no one but herself to blame. It's sad though, that she and her mother still don't talk, but that's between them.
shareI decided to put the film "I, Tonya" on my "don't see" list regarding movies, precisely because I never believed Tonya when she said she didn't know anything about the attack on Nancy Kerrigan. I also have a hard time believing that Tonya Harding was not involved in the masterminding and planning of that attack on Kerrigan. Tonya Harding also made a totally unprovoked physical assault with a hub cap, on a now-ex-boyfriend, Darren Silver, seriously injured him, and ended up with a police warrant on her own head. Tonya also admitted to conspiring to obstruct the investigation and prosecution of her ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly (now Jeff Stone) and his henchmen in order to avoid going to prison. Between all those factors, Tonya permantly side-tracked her promising figure skating career. Too bad, but she brought it on herself.
shareI know how I remember it and what I thought when this all went down when I was 25 years old, and when seeing it today it puts it all in perspective. We were making fun of Harding too a bit, with her unrefined, tough, redneck persona. Whatever anyone's final opinion is I can't respect it if they refuse to see the movie and then, assuming it went down this way, discuss their opinion. I'm not saying they need to change their opinion, just reevaluate it after seeing the movie and see if they feel at all differently and then discuss why or why not. I know I do feel differently a bit.
shareHey listen, SWLinPHX! If you don't respect me for refusing to see the movie "I, Tonya", that's YOUR prerogative. It's rather obvious that Tonya Harding did play a role in the sordid attack on Nancy Kerrigan. She even admitted to making phone calls to a reporter to find out where Nancy Kerrigan lived and practiced figure-skating. The owner of an Oregon restaurant found a trash-bag out in back in the trash bin that she didn't recognize as belonging to the restaurant. Inside was a note with the name, address and phone number of the Dennis, MA ice-skating rink that Nancy Kerrigan regularly practiced her figure-skating at. A prominent writing expert here in the United States examined the hand-writing in the note and traced it directly to Tonya Harding herself. That, imho, is rather damaging evidence that Tonya Harding herself, did, indeed play a role in the masterminding & planning of the attack on Nancy Kerrigan.
Tonya Harding's ex-husband and his henchmen were planning to attack Nancy Kerrigan at the Dennis, MA ice-skating rink where she practiced, but she'd already headed for Detroit, MI, for the 1994 Winter Olympics, so Jeff Gillooly and his henchmen took a bus from Cape Cod, MA, to Detroit, MI, to the now-closed arena where Nancy and Tonya were scheduled to compete.
The fact that Tonya Harding did, indeed, not only become involved in an incident that resulted in a potentially crippling physical injury to a rival figure-skating competitor indicates, but continues to deny her involvement in that whole sordid incident, and refuses to take responsibility for her actions and behaviors indicates the kind of person that she really and truly is...not a nice person.
If you saw more up-to-date photos of the real life Tonya Harding, I doubt very much that you'd think she's the least bit cute. Tonya Harding may have been cuter back in her younger days, but she has not aged well....at all.
shareWell of course young tonya since daz wat dis movie is bout.
Young tonya is a lot cuter than dis actress
Eyez of thee beholder. She was a bit of a fine thing tho.
shareYou really can't spell or think, can you?
Please don't reply. I won't read it.
Either of you.
Even on her best day, Tonya Harding looked like a trailer park skank.
