Get rid of Kevin

Such an unlikeable character, who doesn't seem to understand his white male privilege. Terrible actor as well.

reply

Shut up with the white male privilege. I'm black by the way.

reply

No, you're not. If you were, you'd understand what white privilege is. Look it up. You just don't want someone to point it out, because it's real.

reply

I love Kevin! He's a sweetheart and I hope they get more into his story next season.

reply

I'm not sure how Jack and Rebecca raised such a narcissist, especially when Kate and Randall are so caring. Can't stand Kevin.

reply

I disagree. Kevin is very likable and provides a lot of the comic relief in some otherwise serious storylines. When you look at Kevin's history, growing up as the middle child and getting less attention from his parents than his siblings, his "self-centered" behavior makes sense. I love Kevin more with each new episode and could not imagine the show without him.

reply

Middle child? He's a triplet and the oldest of the bunch.

reply

I think lunakasha meant "middle child" metaphorically. Any child who's lower-maintenance than his or her sibling(s) can get just as lost as a middle child can due to birth order.

Eight-year-old Kevin tells us explicitly what he's feeling in "The Pool": "I almost drowned. . . . You never watch me. . . . You're so busy making sure that Kate's not eating too much, and Randall's not too adopted, and meanwhile, where's Kevin? Oh. Guess what, he's dead."

It genuinely hurts a child who feels left out because he's not obviously needy -- and the fact that Kevin needs Jack's attention as much as Randall and Kate do is underscored by the song during the near-drowning sequence. It's all too easy for parents to inadvertently hurt the child who seems to need less urgent attention. I find Kevin both vulnerable and likable, and I think the writing around his character is unusually perceptive and honest.

reply

Thank you dcherrell for clarifying what I meant by Kevin being the "middle child". I guess, technically, he was born first, but he was often overlooked by his parents in favor of his siblings.

Like you, I have a lot of love for Kevin and look forward to seeing more of his vulnerable and sensitive side.

reply

Isn't Kevin the older?
he said he comes out before Kate, and Rendall is the little one in the family

reply

I'm confused.

I thought he suffered from Pretty People Problem.

I don't let anyone hot-comb out my HAIRitage!

reply

i can't stand him either. just watching him expect people to do things for him, like moving the old couple from their booth or asking the person to move on a subway down to relentlessly chasing down his ex wife whom he cheated on. he's so self absorbed and it's annoying. he honestly just gets everything handed to him.

reply

I'm not getting the white privilege thing (I'm black too), but I just find his issues to be superficial and boring. His pretty boy problems are wack.

reply

Simple----he gets away with certain types of behavior as a white guy that a black guy in similar situations could never get away with.

reply

I agree. Kevin is worst character in this show. I really don't get his lifestyle or even himself. He seems boring and confused person who still didn't decide what he wants from life. He also seems stupid, making stupid decisions. For example, he decided to get back to his ex-wife - Sophie and despite the fact that he cheated in the past and that broke their marriage, Sophie still gave him a second chance. Not everyone would do that, but this girl did it. They started well, but he again screwed it up. He got himself on pills, because of his knee and even if his fiancée - Toby warned him that he would risk to become a cripple, he still continued ignoring doctors advice because of his career chance, got himself addicted on painkillers, skipped whole speech audience which made Sophie a fool in front of public (Kevin also seems very irresponsible person. This is the second time he leaves the scene when public is waiting for this speech/performance) and then he starts ignoring Sophie. Later he comes to her and tells her that he's not the right guy for her and breaks her heart. Then goes to some places for speech again and sleeps with some chick who is his ex classmate or something. Then he all the sudden steals her prescription paper and leaves her house while she's making something for him. So, basically, he also breaks heart of this new girl. We should also mention that he has been not a great brother for Randal either. While other characters of this TV show found their purpose, spend their time with their family and loved ones, Kevin likes to spend his time with strangers or just met people. I really don't understand such lifestyle. I find it boring and empty and I find this character boring and shallow.

So privileged people aren't allowed to have problems?
