Outstanding book, no one better to adapt than Scorsese

This is one of the most tense, shocking books I've read in recent years, and it's all real. What took place is Osage county in Oklahoma in the 1920s is fascinating and absolutely horrifying. Thanks to David Grann for bringing this to light.

Half-way through the book I found out that Scorsese is going to adapt this. I guess they don't start shooting until the spring of 2018, but I'm already gearing up for the trailer.

They just finally started filming!

I haven't read the book but may try to do so... it does sound like an intriguing subject for Scorsese to tackle.

Who knows if or when the film will be ready, major movie production has pretty much been shut down now.

reply

This definitely sounds more interesting than Scorsese's last couple movies. That's for damn sure

reply

Scorsese is promising but Taylor Sheridan could had been a good director for it as well.

reply

Scorsese has already failed. He didn't even bother to cast an actual Osage actress in the role of the Osage woman. This makes as much sense as casting a Korean to play the Emperor of China. The fact is the different tribes of Native Americans are as different as the different Asians. I've seen picture of the actress he picked and she doesn't look like an Osage, she may appear to be a Native American to a white person but to some white people they don't see a difference between a Korean or Chinese. Now what is the word the woke folk in Hollywood would use here, cultural misappropriation... or would we just say racist.

Thats a good call. Sounds right up his alley. Too bad it didnt go that way.

NPR interview with the author, David Grann. Probably spoils the movie.

reply

Heh yeah it probably does.

reply

I'd rather have just about anyone other than Scorsese. And, yes, this is the story America needs to have right now. It will do nothing but heal.

reply

Why is that? This could be his best movie in a long time. Scorcese and Leo are a really good combo.

reply

I just got my hands on the book because of this thread. Thanks, I look forward to reading it and eventually watching the film.

reply

I work in a library, I recall the long waitlist for the book a few years ago.

reply

My local library just sent it to me, and damn! What a compelling read, and horrific story!

Everyone should read this. EVERYONE.

reply

Yeah it’s a fascinating if disturbing story.

reply

His follow up book The Wager was even better in my opinion and is also been made into a movie by Scorsese
