Maybe guys want something for just guys

Why can't it simply be that men have something for men to enjoy?

Is that so crazy of an idea?

Women can have their own 'women things' to partake in: perfectly fine.

Same with men: maybe men like having a thing where just men can enjoy and appreciate their own camaraderie.

Why is it that things where men 1) started and 2) participate in that it has to be a proving ground for the female imperative to consistently be involved in the things men like to do.

No one is suggesting this other than you, a poster who follows obvious woman's junk tv like the Bachelor.

reply

That reply has no relevance.
And if you think that avoiding the point is justified by commenting on tv shows I watch then I think that only further highlights how baseless any possible objection you could raise might just be.

reply

Those bachelor shows are full of jerks and losers. All douchebags. High standards and cant get a date? Yeah ok there. It's us nice guys who finish last.

reply

I'm a chick and a huge baseball fan. It's not just for guys, kid.

reply

The MLB is just for guys.

Women can go make their own league... or stay in their own league. They don't need to always be doing the sport with the men.

reply

I agree with the OP. I might get some special "imdb love" (hate) for this but I think there should be separate groups where men can be/interact/bond with other men and the same goes for women. Contrary to what some people wish, men and women are different. There's nothing wrong with grouping together around those differences sometimes. As a woman, I see nothing inspirational about the premise of this story - not even as a black woman. A female baseball team with female Major Leagues - or starting one - isn't good enough for a talented sportswoman? A male one is the gold star for her and a female team/World Series would be what - subpar? Why do some girls want to join the Boy Scouts, not the Girl Scouts? Keep them both for the sexes they were meant for and start a co-ed group, The Scouts. In my neck of the woods you had Girls' High but then the previously all-boys Central High, which was literally one city block away, had to become co-ed. Why? I don't hear much about men trying to infiltrate currently all-female groups/institutions. Although with the transgender politics becoming more popular, you might have more men trying it now.

reply

Men hanging out with men...can be pretty pathetic.

reply

Baseball is for fans of the game. Employment in the field is for those good enough to merit inclusion. A woman hasn't been good enough yet. If it happens, it'll be interesting. But I don't fear it.

reply

You're awesome:)

reply

A woman was good enough. Jackie Mitchell. She struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gherig. She intimidated baseball commissioner Landis so much he made it a rule that women were not allowed to play.

reply

I disagree.
There is good reasons for men to have their own thing that they can participate in. If women wish to watch, great. Let them watch.

Conversely, if women want a thing just for them where men want to partake in.... they should be just as able to prevent the men from doing so. however, we know this later issue rarely comes up.
There's a certain stripe of women where she wants to prove herself, antagonistically, against men.... and where she feels she needs to be a constant presence.

try watching 'ballers' i dont think there is a single female character in that show

The Rock's girlfriend that got the new job at ESPN, and also the former lineman/former car salesman turned GM-in-training's wife.

I'm sorry what year is this again? Some of you really seem to be lost to 1950s. We are possibly on the cusp of electing our first female president and you want a place where men can be men well cry me a river what the heck do you think has been happening for centuries. There is no place for men to go they've been every damn where. Some of us are sick of that model we want women to be in every place cause we are sick of stories about men. Some of us don't find them the least bit interesting. Women are not going to be sipping afternoon teas with other ladies gossiping about frivolous nonsense while men talk about running the country we want to be there running the country on the field playing baseballand everywhere possible. If men have a problem with that I have place where they can go to be alone if you get my drift

reply

you miss my point...

Why can't men have something that they created be solely for men to enjoy? If I create some sporting event solely for male camaraderie I don't think that's wrong at all.

If you're so sick of stories about men tell your own stories. Leave us alone and not feel the need for always being a constant presence in what we do.

reply

lmao and I thought your post was sarcastic but it's not.

You want something for "just the guys"? Tune in to 60 years of tv, dude, you'll get your 90% share. Or go see one of the 10 movies for dudes that are released every week.

@tim411

Because men already dominate enough of their own spaces, but you're tripping out over a TV show about a woman becoming a baseball pitcher? Get the hell over yourselves and stop acting like it's the end of the damn world--geesh.

reply

It's a constant theme: women feeling the need to prove their worth by competing "with the men". Shows like this pander to that notion by making it out to seem as if the poor, beleaguered woman was being picked on because there are some things in the world where she's not asked to be a member of.
