Do I hate this show?

I can't stand any of the characters. Even Dory's logic in the way she goes about investigating this missing person is BAFFLING.

Okay ya, I hate it. But for some weird reason I still want to know what happened to this girl..

To me there's this sort of charm to how unlikable they all are. The show embraces their flaws and they're all so oblivious to their own flaws, even when they're not. The writers however, are full aware and embrace it. This story wouldn't really work without these characters, otherwise it'd just be a dead end simple story that it ultimately is. But these ridiculous characters bring to life a ridiculous larger than life scenario that imo was very entertaining.

The thing about Dory is that she makes it obvious that the whole thing is about her. She is self absorbed and doesn't really care about Chantal. She just wants to feel useful and is using Chantal as a project because nothing else is going on in her life. I think she realizes that at the end. She also ends up cheating and putting all her friends in danger. I don't think she is unlikeable but her actions make it clear she is kinda awful as a person, if that makes sense.

Elliot is 100% awful, selfish and narcissistic, but he's damn funny. He's the funniest part of the show. He is to millenials what Spinal Tap were to rockstars.

Portia, although clueless and privileged, meant well. She was good and nice to everyone. Even with Chantal's creepy ex and the creepy nannydaddy who obviously wanted to bang her while she had no interest.

Drew, was kind of a coward and a man child, but he ends up being a good person. He seeks her neighbour to help, he doesn't cheat on Dory and helps her on her quest to find Chantal against his own judgement and ends up killing a dude to protect her.

If you're complaining about how unlikable the characters you are, then I think you're completely missing the aim of the show, and I don't quite understand how. At times it is painfully obvious that the show creators want the characters to be unlikable.
The point is to highlight how self involved people of today are. How unmotivated we are, and how we continue doing things we know will get us no where. Dory initially sees Chantal in herself when she goes missing. Unappreciated and forgettable. She has no other connection to this girl other than she bumped into her one time when she moving into her dorm years ago. She's extremely self-absorbed.

Drew is your typical "nice" guy who likes to play the victim. Whiny man child and ultimately a pushover. Elliot and Portia are interchangeable for me, and originally I thought they were twins. They are both narcissistic.

The thing that makes this show unique is the plot and the style it is told in, which I couldn't get enough of. Search Party was one of the most unique shows to come out of 2016, and I'm happy for it.

If you're looking for likable characters, then I'd turn off the TV for a couple years. Unlikable characters are big in TV right now. I find it a nice change of pace, but at times Search Party seems to rely too heavily on it. We get it, they're meant to highlight the flaws in our society...well I guess most of us do. :)

I disagree with this. Yes, Portia has an ego (what actress doesn't?), but she's basically a good and caring person who's looking for validation and love, especially from her awful mother. The pivotal scene in that relationship is when Portia tells her mother she was fired from her show.

Meanwhile, Elliot is much closer to the true definition of a narcissist - or maybe he's just a selfish douchebag. He's a decent friend to Dory and Portia, but he treats his on-again/off-again boyfriend like crap, he's a liar, and is extremely wrapped up in superficiality and boosting his own image.

There is a lot to like with this show, but the ending left me feeling some type of way. I get what the creators were going for, and I think they almost succeeded. But in the end, I was left feeling unsatisfied.
