No, before the movie came out Sony came out and said this wasn't going to be that. Just another alien movie.

This creature is much to hostile even for venom. It doesn't seem to be a symbiant either.

It's extremely likely that "Life" started out as a "Venom" movie.
1) The screenwriters, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, admitted they wrote a script for "Venom". Wernick and Reese had pitched an original story idea for the film to Sony, which Reese described as a "realistic, grounded, a little more dark take on the character".
2) Ruben Fleischer, who worked with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick on "Zombieland" went on to direct "Venom"
3) The director of "Life", Daniel Espinosa, is now directing the "Venom" spin-off, "Morbius".
4) Jake Gyllenhaal (who essentially played John Jameson in "Life") is now playing Mysterio in "Spider-Man: Far From Home".
