This is NOT a Alien rip off.

Alien was called Alien. This is called Life. BIG difference! Like how Ed Sheerhan took Marvin Gayes song "Let's get it on" and merely changed the words and called it "Thinking out loud". Same thing here. If you change the words it is original! I was working on a movie that people said was just like Star wars, but I said incorrecto retardos. While my movie is about these rebels fighting an evil guy who wears a black helmet and a cape and uses a light sword and the rebels blow up his giant metal planet at the end, my movie was called "Space fight". Big difference from it being called "Star wars" so it is original.

I think the title should have been Goodnight Moon.

I have a strong strong feeling that it will be ALIEN with a hint of 2001: A Space Odyssey . Because thus far in 2017 - nobody ripped off 2001 yet (again).

Interstellar ripped off 2001, horrendously. What is it with Hollywood and terrible, pseudo-intellectual but overly pandering crap sci fi movies recently? (passengers, interstellar, the martian). I agree this should have been called "goodnight moon" because then it wouldn't have the most generic title ever. I'm trying to find ANYTHING that shows this film as being a non alien rip off, but it clearly is in every way. Although, with less believable characters and a tacked-on "i'm a daddy now" subplot

What was wrong with The Martian?

Interstellar is really overrated but I wouldn't call it a terrible movie (and it didn't get as high of a reviews as it could've gotten, because of some flaws).

Passengers didn't get the best reviews and isn't considered to be so good, so you're correct on that one. However, that movie is a really big waste of potential. With some tweaking we could've gotten something like Psycho and Solaris combined. That's the closest I can compare such a waste of potential. I want that movie to be remade.

Also, I strongly disagree that Interstellar ripped-off 2001 that strongly. It's obviously inspired by that movie, yes. It's a homage, but apart from some visuals etc., they're very, very different movies.

Wall-E has more similarities to 2001, than Interstellar.

What was wrong with The Martian?
Visually it was almost flawless. But from a script POV it was so pandering and phoney. It was clearly a film made to appeal to the idiotic masses who don't care about science, but instead watch youtube vids of balloons popping in slow motion and go "OMFG I TOTES LOVE SCIENCE LUL!"

The dialogue was so inauthentic and so was the supposed "banter" between the people on the rescue spaceship. Also, "In your face Neil Armstrong" and "I have to science the S*** out of this" are 2 of the most pandering lines in film history. Unfortunately, Hollywood prefers to make huge spectacle sci-fi like Martian and Interstellar, but then they go and add all these simplistic and one-dimensional scripts and dialogue to the films which spell out everything for the audience. Great Sci-Fi like 2001 or Primer or Alien doesn't do this. From the trailer of "Life" it looks like it also misunderstands that Less Is More. It's fascinating when the "space Jockey" isn't explained, yet "Prometheus" is just dreadful it over-explains everything so idiots can keep up. Same with all these other films.

Wall-E was the best of those movies (The first half is considered a masterpiece, because nothing was over-explained and pandering) Because it was the least arrogant and smug.

Actually. The Martian was written sort of for lulz by a guy who wanted to write a Robinson Crusoe story. The adaptation is pretty close to the novel. So give the writer a break, do you know how hard it is to write good dialoge?

Also, you sound kinda old. "I have to science the shit out of this" is totally what a somewhat young person would say, very spot on.

Finally, Alien is a stupid fucking movie filled with fucking stupid people. Sure, we all know the suits wanted to get their hands of a Xenomorph but as long as the crew would have followed chain of command none of the events that followed the return to Nostromo would have happened. It's a pretty good scary movie but it's a horrible and stupid SF film.

It's not an Alien ripoff.

Actually it kinda sorta is.

I (almost) feel the need to say something when i saw some comments about this movie = Life, where some ppl acused this movie to be Alien ripoff. I say; it's complete BS. Just because some story happened in space and have alien lifeform in the movie, that doesn't mean movie is a ripoff of Alien movie. And at the same time nevermind it has completely different alien lifeform in it, which is completely different in every way from alien lifeform in Alien movie. Alien lifeform in Life movie also have completely different evolving cyclus from alien liform in Alien movie, both also have completely different lethal systems and storys it selfs with different events and completely different caracters.
If every movie filmed in space and with alien lifeform in it will be called an Alien ripoff, we would have no more sci-fi, space, horror movies, where some Extraterrestrial life is involved in the story. Some people need to start watch movies for entertainment and enjoy the ride and not get immediately triggered and start criticised movie if noticed some parallels with some other movies, because almost in every movie you could find some parallels with some other movie, that doesn't mean it's a ripoff.
Term Alien is used in genaral for unknown beings which are unknow at this point to us humans
and for Extraterrestrial life, life which does not originate from Earth and are also called alien beings = Alien / Aliens.
If people saw some movie where Animal (Tiger) atacked human in the forest and then saw some other movie where Animal (Bear) attacked human in the forest (both movies have completely different storys and caracters) people would not say for Animal (Bear) movie; it's a ripoff from Animal (Tiger) movie.

animal = alien <> animal = general terms for different animals
animal = alien <> alien = general terms for different Extraterrestrial life

[1] Animal Tiger = (Alien 1979 = alien lifeform RRR) = different storys, different lifeforms, different caracters, different sountrack,
different movie.

[2] Animal Bear = (Life 2017 = alien lifeform QQQ) = different storys, different lifeforms, different caracters, different sountrack,
different movie.

If story have some parallels with some other movie, that doesn't make a movie ripoff movie, if that would be the case, almost every movie ever made would be concider a ripoff movie from some other movie, if people look for parallels in movies.

What you described is called a ripoff from Star Wars! Changing ONLY the name of the movie and call it original is being delusional. What you described is same story with same caracters (Rebeles fighting ''bad guy'' with black helmet and fighting with light sward, blowing up metal giant planet owned by bad guys, etc.)

Same goes for music. If someone keep complete melody from orginal artist and he use it in ''his song'' where only lyrics were changed and only lyrics are his, such music is not concider complete original work, since he didn't come up with his own melody for his lyrisc but rather use it from other artist. That's why a lot of today's music are not concider orginal work anymore since a lot of ''artists'' borrow things from original songs/tracks.
Btw. Ed Sheerhan is known to ''borrow'' music from others and not credit them! That's why he got slaped with the lawsuit and was quickly settled out of court after judge aloud for this case to go forward when judge heard the original music and Ed Sheerhan's version.

On the other hand; Life vs Alien is completely different story: This was not a ripoff by any standards.

All I can tell you is that this film is better than either Prometheus or alien covenant. Period.

reply

So Alien: Covenant really sucks balls huh?

reply

OP is trying to be funny, but it indeed isn't an Alien rip off. Producers pitched it to studios as "Jaws in space". So if anything, it's a Jaws rip off.

Alien + Gravity = Life.
