I haven’t seen Fast Five in a long time. Are the shots of Paul Walker as Brian in the scenes that take place during the events of Fast Five actual clips from that movie or did the filmmakers CGI new footage of Paul Walker?

Just old clips. Really didn't make any sense as everyone knows he is dead IRL. Not sure why they are still pretending he is alive in the movie.

I keep on getting the feeling that they are waiting for deepfake technology to improve to the point where they can have entirely new footage with Brian interacting in new scenes with the rest of the cast

They already confirmed that if/when they bring him back, they'll just bring in his brothers and use CGI. Just like what they did with Furious 7. No re-casting or anything. Just do what they had to do to complete Furious 7.

No. They said that if/when they bring him back, they'll just do what they did to finish Furious 7 (bring in his brothers and then CGI his head onto their bodies).

They should just get a different actor to play the role of Brian. They did that with Doms son as they used 2 different actors for parts 8 and 9
