I Liked It, But There Is One Major Issue

It was a good movie overall. I liked it a lot more than 9 (which for me is the worst, and it has nothing to do with the action and how ridiculous the action was in 9). My only issues with the movie is that it definitely screams Part 1. I checked stuff around the 90-minute mark and realized that not much had happened plot wise/story wise, and it seemed like that they weren't going to wrap up stuff in the next 30-40 minutes (the copy of the movie I watched had a runtime of 2 hours 12 minutes (didn't really have the end credits)). It seemed like there was still another hour or two to go with the story they were trying to tell in 10. Or another good comparison, it was like watching some TV show and they have a 2-parter, and on re-watching the 2-parter, you can clearly see that they couldn't fit things in a 40-60 minute episode and the first episode of the 2-parter is just all build. 10 just has that Part 1 feel of a 2-parter episode instead of being standalone. It's not like Fast & Furious 4, 5, and 6 (aka the Han Trilogy) where each movie had a beginning, middle, and end. 10 just felt like they were taking their time with stuff. You could even compare stuff to Lord Of The Rings. In Fellowship Of The Ring, you know they aren't going to destroy the ring by the end of the movie. There is still two more movies to go. So Fellowship Of The Ring doesn't really have an end, and Fast & Furious 10 kind of feels the same way. If we are actually getting 12 and 10 is Part 1 of a trilogy, it would've been better to just go the 4, 5, and 6 route. I like that structure better when it comes to storytelling. I wanted 10 to feel standalone like all the previous movies. So yeah. 10 screaming Part 1 was really my major negative/complaint.

My second complaint would be that they made Cena too goofy. Come on. The guy wears a "I have gas" shirt for majority of the movie. What is this? I sort of liked Cena in 9. Actually, what they did in 10 with Cena made me REALLY miss Peacemaker. I definitely prefer R-rated Cena. The whole time watching 10, I kept thinking of Grim from Grims Toy Show on YouTube and the voice he gives Cena action figures. "Hi, kids. This is your pal Super Cena" (which translates to that Cena is for the kids and a role model for kids). I want Peacemaker John Cena or the John Cena from Fast & Furious 9 (but good, not evil).

Man, Cena was the saving grace of this movie for me. It really picked up a few notches and felt a bit more like the earlier films when he showed up. The early F&F flicks had a lot of fun in them.

Yeah, about an hour into this thing I got this sense of dread, like when you're watching a two parter tv show. There was just too many balls in the air, too many story threads, too many characters running around. I realized there was no way in hell there was going to be any resolution to anything that was going on. I knew they kind of wanted this two be a two parter, if not a three parter now. But I figured there would at least be resolution to this film, its core story line. But instead we got a Hobbit 2 kind of ending. What even the F. Movie just stops. It was very frustrating.

Overall the film was a bit bloated and had terrible pacing issues.

also, several times in the film Vin switched into Riddick mode. Which was a little out of character.

This isn't a criticism, but they also slipped some Star Wars sound effects into this.

I agree that Cena's scenes and presence were among the most entertaining things in the movie. For me, Cena and Mamoa's totally wacky performance were the best things in the film.

Other than that, it was just another Fast film, complete with worn out characters, CGI set pieces that completely disregard physics and have no basis in reality, and no stakes (because the series has already shown that the characters can survive the un-surviveable, and that even the dead can be brought back to life).

Wait, are you saying I have to watch The Lords of the Ring trilogy to understand this movie?

reply

LOL. Legit chuckled.

Have you seen Daft Punk's new video for Infinity Repeating:-

It's really something, comes complete full circle at the end. It probably has the satisfaction you were searching for from this movie...

Your copy? Wut? If it is what I think it is, who still watches low quality stuff? oO
