They should have stopped at Part 7

Anybody else agree?

reply

Nope. I liked that movie, but they should have stopped after Fast Five. I mean, The Fast and the Furious, Fast & Furious (4) and Fast Five would have been amazing as a trilogy. I pretend that 2Fast2Furious never happened, and Tokyo Drift would've been better as a stand-alone film.

reply

Wow, I think part 4 is the worst of the franchise. Very dull and uninteresting. 2 Fast may not be a good film, but it's at least fun on some level.

1, 3 and 5 are the best IMO.

reply

I kinda liked how part 4 is different and it felt more FBI movie than racing movie. I'm still surprised it shares the same rating as Part 8, that movie was absolutely ridiculous. That zombie cars scene was just too dumb, lol.

I loved the opening of 2 Fast, the rest not so much.

reply

You see, that's how I felt about Part 4. The opening in the city was pretty cool but then the film just went to shit after that.

I was quite disappointed by 2 Fast when I saw it in the theater because it was a very disappointing follow-up to an awesome first film. But years later I gave it another chance and found things to like about it.

All the films since Five have gotten increasingly ridiculous. No doubt if the franchise continued they would eventually go to space.

reply

I'm not sure if I mind to spoil, but have you seen F9 yet?

reply

I have not. No spoilers, please.

reply

Don't worry, I won't. I just saw it yesterday.

reply

I hate 4 and never bother watching it. The effects and stunts look like absolute garbage.

I love the second film. It's so bright and colorful and fun. Almost a send up of Miami Vice.

reply

I watched 4 in the theater, was disappointed, and then waited several years to try again with it. Still disappointed the second time around. It sucks.

2 Fast is goofy and ridiculous, and the cars in the second film by and large aren't as cool as the first, but it has its fun moments and memorable bits of dialogue. Also, the stunts are practical instead of CGI bullshit, PW and Tyrese have pretty good chemistry, and Cole Hauser does well as the villain.

reply

I don't think it matters much either way. The last good one was Five. I find the films since then to be moderately entertaining so they can keep going forever or they could stop now and my reaction would be about the same.

reply

It definitely peaked with Five. But I really like 6 as a nice bookend. Everybody back together at the house in LA, full circle. Just skip that mid-credits scene and you got a real cool, little over the top but somewhat grounded saga.

reply

I would argue it peaked with the first film but Five is definitely one of the good films.

I can't remember much about the specifics of six except for the sequence with the cargo plane. I do remember thinking it was OK all in all, but nothing more than that.

reply

I probably wouldn't have liked 6 much but for how much I love Luke Evans. He was a great baddie.

There was a lot of practical stunt work too.

reply

6 was okay.

I've enjoyed everything after the movie I'm going to say and I'm still looking forward to 10 and 11, but I think 6 was more of a better movie to end things in a narrative way. Everything felt tied up. Everyone was able to return to the U.S. and live happily ever after, plus we learned how Han found his way to Tokyo (where he would die) and why Giselle wasn't with him. The movie just had this final movie feel to it. Well, it was already the final movie to fill in what led to Tokyo Drift, but it just felt like a final movie altogether. So I wouldn't have mind 6 being the last movie altogether. I'm still enjoying the movies though. Well, except 9. I thought 9 was complete trash (not because I finally tapped when it comes to how ridiculous the movies are getting, it's for other reasons, I'm one of those that can still roll with a person falling from a 40-story building and surviving, I know the difference between reality and a movie, I don't watch movies for 100% realism). I still enjoyed 7 and 8 along with Hobbs & Shaw, and I'm looking forward to 10 and 11. But looking at things from a writer's POV, 6 was a good place to end things in a narrative way. I can't really recall stuff that was still left unanswered. Only new questions popped up and stuff when that scene during the credits popped up revealing Jason Statham was responsible for killing Han in Tokyo Drift and that he was out for revenge for what happened to his brother in 6. If they didn't include that scene, 6 could've easily been the final movie.
