This sucks

I used to really like Archie comics and found them funny. I get that they didn't really age well but do they really need to make a B grade CW show to prove that they're edgy. They've already killed Archie made him fight a predator cross him over with Sabrina and just about everything but this for me crosses the line for me.

reply

It's on CW network, their demands and expectations. Just don't watch. I don't get the bitching. Old Archie would never make it to broadcast network. As if you folks watch CW or any of its show anyway.

reply

I'm not saying the old Archie is good I'm just saying that they should leave well enough alone. I won't watch it but I'm saying that it shouldn't change even if it is loosing popularity. Garfield never really changed and I still read it even if they aren't as good anymore. I would stop reading it if Garfield fell in love with odie and arlene left him and then he died by fighting a xenomorph.

reply

Oh so you're living in the past and have never seen the horror comic line of Archie? Those are far darker than this show.
Garfield have never done any gritty comic release but Archie comics have so I don't get your point.

reply

I've seen the Archie horror and known about it for a while I understand why the show is going this direction but I'm saying it is gonna suck just like the Archie horror comics

reply

Then Archie comics will forever be left in the dust while Marvel/DC and even Valiant is getting adaptations. Let's see how long Archie Comics will last.

reply

you do know they changed archie comics right? to not be left in the dust and they only rely on archie not every superhero that fails, archie is already a success: http://archiecomics.com/

reply

Ah, Prince Valiant. They did a movie about him (from the comics) in 1954. The actor who played him (he was married to the wood that doesn't float - it's a terribly insensitive joke, especially the day after the incident) was Dinozzo's father.

It is amazing what they can get young people to watch; but I guess my generation is not in a position to criticize.

The best diplomat I know is a fully charged phaser bank.

but I'm saying it is gonna suck just like the Archie horror comics

If you think Archie Horror sucks I don't think you have any place to be criticizing storytelling, period.

"No! He is imprinted on you like a gay duckling. If you don't wean him off you slowly, he'll die."

reply

Why would anyone want Archie to die and then go on an adventure with his gay friend. It's like when they murdered the robot from short circuit two. It doesn't make any sense for a teen comedy for them to kill of the title character.

reply

He dies in another comic line, a non-horror one.

reply

You clearly have strong emotions about this. The reason you're not getting the reactions you're hoping for is that sane people don't grasp why you're feeling this way or why you feel compelled to talk about it. Your reaction is way over the top in comparison to what's actually happening. It's like you're having an aneurysm because they changed the color of count chocula's eyes. You might consider therapy to help you understand your reaction. Here, show us on the doll where the bad jughead touched you...

Movies are IQ tests; the IMDB boards are how people broadcast their score.

reply

That's a bit harsh. When dealing with things you have a nostalgic connection with it's not uncommon to regress a bit. Part of a younger and less rational self can shine through when exposed to things that once meant the world to you. After all, we have all gotten used to Star Wars fans going nuts if they feel their childhood memories being ret-conned into something they don't like or recognize. Actually I think I would be unhappier if I lost my capacity for feeling this way sometimes.

reply

i dont know what archie you left off on but they have been extremely egy as of late at least the current ones ive dabbled in last couple years i mean im not talking about the digests you see on the front end registers at the supermarket.

reply

To the OP. I totally know what you mean. I would Betty and Veronica comics back in the day. When I saw the trailer I was shocked by the tone of the show. There's a murder in a small town. Cool...now why add Archie storyline to it?

I get that there are edgier Archie comics now but for the rest of the world that read the originals this show seems so off and almost a joke. Granted I'm not the target age so it doesn't matter what I think. Just think the CW could have produced something better than a typical murder/mystery show. Scream on MTV already has that.

reply

Eh. It's so far gotten really good reviews. To each their own

reply

I love No Tomorrow, Frequency, The 100 and iZombie. So I hope this bombs.

reply

This show is just like Vampire Diary but the producers try to package it like Twin Peak to fool the public to watch it, at least the first episode. I think the first episode can get 0.6 ratings in demo, then the second episode gets 0.3 or 0.4, after that, it will stay at 0.2.

reply

I think its stupid to scab off an old comic book using the characters and the town name. when they could have just made a few changes to make it stand on its own. its very lame when the writers cant even come up something original enough to hold people's attention.
and yes archie comic did have some issues where there was zombies and ghouls, but that was the exception not the main theme of the comic series. The hype and the theme of the teaser trailers seem very similar/ the same as other series running/cancelled. Nothing new here.
as i said at the beginning scabbing off a recognized comic book series with a theme thats nothing like the comic series at all. this will tank big time..

reply

Wrong! it will tank hard had it been more faithful to the comic. That kind of show will flop on CW. No edge and no spark. Comedy have dreadful ratings on CW. They're(Jane & CEG) only renewed for winning awards. The original Archie definitely wont win any awards in writing or acting lol which means instant axe had it gone that way.

reply

indeed it does

Look like Tarzan talk like Jane! HAHA

reply

This is written by a modern Archive writer and many of the newer books are like this too. The CW is also about the best fit for a teen soap opera.

Him and Sabrina have crossed over for decades and he met the Punisher in the 90s. How is any of this a new development?

reply

yeah writers from the actual comic are working on the show, so its not like CW is trying to make it their own thing and just calling it riverdale.
