I yelled 'FUCK YOU' at the screen.
I invested 1.5 hours into a very flawed story about space exploration, and you ripped the last few pages of the story out and didn't tell us how it ended??!
I know I know, sometimes it's good to leave it up to the imagination - but in this case not.
Understandable reaction. This is not a great film even considering its low budget nature, and the ending is not good. If I was stuck with the story point of the protagonist electing to... do what he did... I would have tagged on a finale, taking about three to five minutes in which the Magellan turns up in Earth orbit after a passage of a few hours after the last transmission.
Nelson would appear older but ecstatic and the cabin behind him would be crowded with odd shapes, glowing boxes, spherical aquariums with shapes swimming in them, bundles of reeds, flat panels with alien sunrise images and flickering symbols...
Nelson - "I met them. We should expect visitors... soon. There are... gifts... aboard... for all of us... Abigail, I am home."
Just the first idea that came to mind. They certainly could have done something.
