Filmed in 6 days?!
is it a short film? How could it be filmed in that short of a time?
shareSounds like they were rushing this film.
shareTyler Perry works fast. He rushes through things very quickly. How do you think he managed to produce all the movies, plays, and TV shows he did (TV shows having double or triple the amount of episodes in their seasons a normal season would generally have) in just the past eleven years since his first feature film "Diary of a ad Black Women" came out? He managed to produce the amount of work it would take some one else decades to do in just a decade time-span. Do you know about his TV show "The Haves and the Have Nots"? The show is currently at episode 75 airing-wise, but he already has 107 filmed according to one of the actresses in a video. So that's 32 episodes in the bag, nine of which will air this year and the rest next year.
shareYou are correct, also, I know the actors on many of his films have said he knows what he wants in each shot and will run multiple cameras all at once. So instead of doing three different takes with one camera, he will set-up 3 or more and film. Also, he can do a show a day in his studio, where some shows take weeks to make one episode. He has stated most of his plays, ideas, music, etc. he had written YEARS before he became famous. So, LIONSGATE signed him I think for a 7 picture deal because he had the ideas for those films already. And as you all know many of the movies are based on plays that are filmed. I have much respect for Tyler Perry he is a truly talented man, I cannot sing, or carry a tune let alone write music. He is very multifaceted. thank you
shareI wonder why he shot this so early considering it wouldn't be released until OCTOBER. This was shot in January. Given he only did this in six days, he could have put it off until this passing summer! The movie was just edited and then left to dust for basically ten months.
shareMost of the scenes center around characters Perry is playing himself, not to mention he also wrote and directed it. If they filmed several scenes a day they could've easily completed this within a week.
shareThe Bowery Boys movies were all shot in 6 days, they were gut busting HILARIOUS, so this movie has potential too!
sharealways the mark of a classic. Ed Wood shot his movies over one lunch hour. People forget that.
shareMany movies have been shot in short periods of time.
Roger Corman did it back in the day and I believe the first Paranormal Activity was shot in a week but this movie looks like it was obvious that it was a rush job.
And it will likely gross $15-20 million during its theatrical run. Not a bad use of six days fiscally speaking.
However all Perry films are terrible.
$24 million dollar opening weekend.....
(probably)
$12 million dollars 2nd weekend
$5 million dollars 3rd weekend
$1.5 million dollars 4th weekend
$45 million cumulative total domestic.
Not bad.
Is the movie good?
Depends on who you ask. Comedy is subjective.
Key word is "Filmed" in 6 days......
Really, most movies are filmed within a relatively short period of time (6 days is pretty quick but not unusual). 18-24 days seems to be the norm for most movies.
But that's just the filming. You're leaving out all the time spent editing, composing music, CGI, market research, re-edits, etc.
Only the perfectionists / machochists like Kubrick or Hitchcock or Anderson et all take extremely long times.
Or, if certain actors in a film have prior engagements that slow down filming until they are free to do their scenes.
But it is not magic to do it in 6 days, because again, that's 6 probably 18 hour days and probably about 100 hours of film that will need to be edited down to a 100 minute movie.
That does seem incredibly fast though to film a movie in less than a week! WOW!
