Why did Tree tackle Danielle? [spoiler]

What did Danielle drop that got Tree angry enough to tackle her into the street? In the scene where they both got hit by a bus. It looked like some sort of notebook but what was the significance of it?

reply

Danielle was in possession of the birthday card that was on Tree's dresser the night Tree was murdered in her bedroom. The message written in the card said, "today will be your last" or something like that. So when Tree saw that same card in Danielle's possession, she assumed that Danielle was her killer.

reply

Then why did she cross Danielle off her list the next day? How did getting hit by a bus prove that Danielle was not her killer?

reply

So now you're asking me a completely different question. On that one you would have to fill in the blanks because the director skipped over it. My guess is that somehow later on Tree figured out that Danielle wasn't the murderer and it wasn't shown to us.

reply

Bad editing, maybe caused by a deleted scene.

reply

She is only killed by the killer. Killer is in that bus or truck. Danielle didn't kill her but was killed along with her. Isn't it simple?

reply

She saw that the card that said "today will be your last" was from Danielle but really that part wasn't signed until later, by Lori.

Also, when she awoke the next day still in the trap (even after Danielle died from the bus hitting them) she knew the killer had to still be alive or else she wouldn't still be trapped, so she crossed Danielle off the list.

reply

But Danielle still could have been the killer. Since they both died by a bus early on during the day, the only thing she proved was that she comes back if she dies from other sources besides the masked killer. I don't get why that crossed Danielle off the suspect list.

She could have died hit by a bus along the real killer anyway and she would have woken up again, right?

reply

The film's writer had a chance to explain in a tweet but didn't - he only confirmed that the bus driver was NOT Lori or Tombs

Someone online suggested she'd ruled Danielle during an unseen cycle - we see nine onscreen deaths but she mentions having suffered 15. She could've been exaggerating though, and it seems like pretty sloppy writing to leave it out.

Maybe after overpowering Danielle so quickly, Tree realized Danielle was too weak to be the killer

reply

She realized that Danielle wasn't the killer because Tree spoke to her through the door, AFTER Tree had barricaded it with her dresser drawer. I believe she was that upset, because she's at a breaking point, and can't seem to get away from the whole "you-wont-have-a-tomorrow" type sentences. Tree even tells Carter that she "Hates that sticker" that's on his door.

reply

Simple, yes

But wrong, according to the filmmakers

Besides, we're shown nothing about the bus/truck that suggests Lori or Tombs is driving it.

They could've easily shown the baby-mask behind the wheel, but didn't.

Because the killer wasn't driving.
