They probably figured the publicity of the whole recasting spacey with plummer in the crazy shooting window would've created interest to the tune of about 80-100m domestic/100m overseas. Now Scott is probably wondering why he bothered..

They'll probably have to put the Spacey version on the bluray just to get some curiously sales

Then they'll have to pay Spacey more money, no? Though to be honest I'm not sure that works - did Spacey still get paid?

No I don't think so. I believe a movie with Spacey was finally released some time after the scandal broke out and it apparently only made about 2.7 million dollars world wide from a budget of 15 Million and a hilariously shocking $1,349 in the USA. So if he'd been in this movie, it would have been a flop of epic proportions that would possibly have put the film company in serious financial straits.
