when he asked each of them to turn off their phones because he's too old to know how, and gave them like 10 minutes to do it, then even goes and watches what they're doing. I feel like he was giving them the opportunity to delete the video of daisy.

I don't know how I missed that... I was thinking, "Wow, this sheriff is quite an idiot for returning evidence to a suspect so that they could 'shut the phone off.'"
I would bet that the Sheriff got a call from a "higher up" before he even questioned that kid, which is probably why he tried to make such a big point to portray himself as the one at the very top, "where the buck stops." Sure buddy, it never went any higher up then you. Any suspects in that arson case?
