What slays me the most about this is that THIS photo with Ms Breslin was among the very first that ABC released to publicize this movie.
I was STUNNED when I first saw it last year. I mean nothing from the director like "Cut! Abby dear, concentrate. Try to keep your legs together, arch your back a bit and PLEASE, point your toes."
Now, I taped it last night. Will watch this weekend, so I do not know if they show her getting it "right", but if she did, use a photo from THAT to publicize, not the one they did release.
She did not get it "right". It was in the film as you see in the photo. Why didn't they just leave "Dirty Dancing" 1987 as it was. As I stated previously...just pitiful! You know that feeling where you are embarrassed for someone else? Well, last night I hung my head and asked "Why?".
shareThe body shaming is strong here !
shareIt's not body shaming. Truth is truth. She should not have been cast in that role. There was no grace, she couldn't dance...she just wasn't the right person with her being overweight. It was pitiful. The obesity in this country is running rampant, but today, for some reason it's accepted. People (especially women) don't seem to care anymore as evident of the overweight actors on tv. Our deteriorating health is showing the result of this acceptance. Heart disease, diabetes, etc. are skyrocketing resulting in higher healthcare costs. I, myself am overweight for the first time in my life due to a more sedentary lifestyle of illness and...gulp...old age. But, I don't accept it. And furthermore I would not put myself in the limelight as she did. Being overweight should never, ever be the new "in". It should not be celebrated. I swear, some of the women I see must not own a mirror or just don't care about what they are wearing. At least try to camouflage it!
shareShe couldn't dance because she's not a dancer and she probably had a total of 2 hours of "rehearsal" for that crap. It has nothing to do with her weight. She couldn't dance even if she was some skinny bitch.
Hell, the barely animated piece of wood they cast as Johnny (apparently) is a professional dancer and I've seen drunk teenagers do better on Youtube.
As for you hiding under a rock because you're old and overweight, well good for you. You shouldn't expect everyone else to do the same. Also, please, find a rock without internet access so you can stop making a fool of yourself with your "intellect" too. Weight is not what you should be hiding.
Truth hurts, doesn't it? You missed my point completely as evident of your insult. Where did I write I'm hiding? I wrote it's unacceptable for me. Not only for appearances, but for my health.
Since my reply flew over your head, I will reiterate...Obesity was the point and the devastating effect it's having on the populace and should not be celebrated.
Very true, there's also a double standard that women demand that they should be accepted no matter how they look and any man who doesn't find obese women attractive is a sexist jerk but obese men are still mocked and rejected and it's acceptable.
Very true! In times past, not so long ago, women would not allow themselves to become the "porkers" they are. We have become fast food junkies, gamers, couch potatoes, etc. You know something is wrong when airlines are having to widen seats or sell two for one body to use!
shareDon't you just detest nasty trolls? Such as the one who crawled out from under the bridge and interjected itself into this conversation. It has no common sense...nothing, zilch to offer in order to reply with substance! Good riddance!
shareFunny how this post aged. Almost seems like the HAAS movement was a Psy-Op to fatten people up for the release of Covid...
shareI think even the bigger problem, much more than her having extra junk in the trunk, is that Breslin never actually went for it. She was so woefully awkward. Its as if she was aware that she was the wrong body type for the role and she allowed that mindset to negatively impact her performance. Overall she was horrible in this, but even if she had not been, it couldn't save this crapfest.
shareit's fascinating that people like you won't die out.
shareWe are dying out...and at an abnormality faster rate due to obesity. Why won't you accept that fact? Why do you not see the major health problems in this country are due to being overweight? You seem to defend those who are. Have you checked your BMI lately? I have. I'm not happy, so therefore I intend to do something about it. Everyone I know who is overweight has major health problems. Look at the people on the motorized carts at Walmart, the groceries, etc. They're overflowing the darn seat! Maybe if they lost some of that tonnage they could walk. Good Grief! Wise up!
share"Have you checked your BMI lately? I have. I'm not happy, so therefore I intend to do something about it. "
and you should. just look at yourself. disgusting. what are you doing about the face, though? you know that you can't make that up in personality, right? a normal dude, sure. but you?
"Everyone I know who is overweight has major health problems. "
get better friends.
"Look at the people on the motorized carts at Walmart"
and they were casted for dirty dancing? wow, that's pretty progressive. consider me surprised.
"get better friends" Say what? Please explain? Are you now saying due to my friends, etc. being overweight they are not "better" in the friend department? You know...I've come to the conclusion that you are a jerk! No common sense, no rationale, a zero! Me thinks you is a nasty troll! Good bye!
shareoh, that's what you said.
New Year bump!
shareShe wasn’t overweight though. People seem to think that if a woman isn’t thin, she must be overweight. Breslin was chubby at most, but overweight? Nope.
shareYour reply is from a 2 years ago OP? Sorry...too long ago for me to respond. Memories fade. I don’t go back that far. But returning to the link, she most definitely was overweight for this scene. The guy had difficulty lifting her.
shareAs did Patrick in the original... it was meant to be like that.
shareShe was overweight. There was reporting to the fact and the difficulty he had lifting her. Just look at the photo. Patrick didn’t have difficulty due to Jennifer Grey’s weight. She was tiny. It was due to balancing in water.
“Her iconic leap into his up-stretched arms? It's so strained it appears more like a function of gritted teeth and prayer than a triumphant moment powered by young love. As for their other dance scenes — they're strategically shot to avoid showing too much foot movement.”
I'm no dance expert, but I got the impression that the female has to launch and land in a precise manner so as to the make the move artful. Not just whether the guy can support her weight. Dancing is a Real Art, it's not just having fun on the dance floor.
