Coz, women are incapable of coming up with (female)Characters right? Enjoy the privelege while it lasts, this show ain't gonna get renewed!
The show IS terrible but not because it has a female Van Helsing. Any horror fan worth their salt knows there have been several in the past. Hammer had Jessica Van Helsing in two films, the popular anime Hellsing has Integra leading the family line. And Dr. Julia Hoffman in Dark Shadows was based on Abraham Van Helsing, just with the gender changed and a new name and she was very ground breaking... 1966 when she was introduced to the show...
This character is meant to be a descendant of Abraham Van Helsing. I don't know if you know how we humans reproduce but often there's a 50/50 chance of the child being male and female and families have both genders in them or there's no chance of the family carrying on.
Productions of Frank Wildhorn's Dracula (play) have used female Van Helsing before and they don't change a word of the dialogue except the pronouns. And that play is an international hit.
